Since the digital broadcast change, there are more local channels now, if you have over the air and a converter box, than before.

When do these new channels show up on Direct TV?

I listened to all those "You don't need to do anything", and didn't get a converter box. Now I find that I'm missing new stations.

The "you don't need to do anything" ads were talking about keeping your existing local channels when they switched from analog to digital. The digital subchannels are a different situation.

Some of the digital subchannels have been picked up in some areas, but most have not been launched. In fact, I don't think (but I could be wrong) that the must-carry rules apply to digital sub-channels.
George Bernard Shaw: "We learn from experience that men never learn anything from experience." ;) :D

The 50-50-90 Rule: "Whenever you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there is a 90% probability that you will get it wrong." -- Unknown ;)

Heinlein's Razor: Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.

Must carry rules don't apply... and if any of your major network affiliates are using sub channels, you should be screaming at them! Where do you think the bandwidth comes from for those sub channels?

Be grateful, If DirecTV was forced to carry all of the sub channels they would need an entire new fleet of satellites.
