Running a vista machine with wmp11 and can play AVI video files on the PC with no trouble. When I try to play that same file on my TV through my HR20-700 I see an X next to the file and it does not play. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Oops - http://www.dbstalk.c...ad.php?t=162067

Have you run the network tests on the HR20? How is it connected? Is the IP address within the IP range for your network? Does the other HR20 work?
DirecTV since '96, Waivers for ABC, CBS, NBC, & Fox, HR23-700 & HR24-500/AM21, using ethernet based MRV.

The HRs can only play a single, specific type of video: MPEG2 Transport Stream.

If you're like everyone else, chances are that none of your existing video files use this format, so in order to view any videos on the HR, you must use media server software that can TRANSCODE (re-encode on the fly) your video to the format the HR needs. The most popular of these is TVersity. WMP in Windows 7 can also do transcoding for many video types, but transcoding isn't a built-in feature in XP or Vista's WMP, and likely won't be.
