Ironic that a team which won the Series in 1969 by combining chemistry-building and patient player development -- especially pitching -- with smart trading has fallen totally on its face by decimating its farm system to buy over-age, overpaid, overrated players with lousy attitude.

In the words of the derisive Sixties (pre-1969) clarion call:

It doesn't look to be any better for the foreseeable future, either.

When you consider their 47-year history, they've really been competitive for only in spurts: 1969-73; 1984-90; 1998-2000; 2006-08.
