and these aren't like an ad for a product - they are promoting a specific show or channel, DirecTV can't be making money off of these - just annoying people.
As I said when they first appeared if NO ONE ever clicks on these they would eventually go away, but people must click through some time.

Because the owner of the channel couldn't pay DirecTV to have them in the guide?

I care. It's not as if I have the option to not notice them ... they're so in-your-face loud and obnoxious they can't be ignored.

Ooh! Ads in the program guide? Where? Where? I can't see any on my R15's!!

I don't mind them if there's only one or two through the whole guide. But I don't like having an already glacial guide slowed down with advertising.

Who cares????? Just don't read it. It's really not as big deal.

While I don't love the banner ads in principal, it would be much easier to ignore if they had a decent UI. If they take 2 spots for banners, that is a third of the spaces on one page of the guide.

DirecTV, please don't make me have to go back to watching March Madness in standard Def! Oh, and the usual begging for AMC and BBC America. You are so close to actually being the HD Leader.

Well, I care actually. 1/3rd of the guide is now taken for ads in that section. I think they are going a little overboard now.

... and the ads are coming to the R15 soon I would say. What do you think all those "guide polishing" tags really mean?! :P

I think it's a bit annoying having the same ad twice on the same screen. I'm not sure that's really helping sell the program, but whatever. I can live with it for a little while.
Opinions expressed by me are my own and do not necessarily reflect
those of DBSTalk.com, DIRECTV, DISH, The Signal Group, or any other company.

I complained to D* about 4 months ago and they basically told me they could care less that I don't like them.

I will be sending an e-mail voicing my displeasure for this practice and hope others will as well.

Me too!

While the banner ads may be a bit annoying, I don't care much what the guide looks like, color, HD, etc, I enjoy watching TV :)

FWIW: Today my double banner ad has been reduced to a single.
"Perhaps" someone read this thread. ;)

Or maybe D* billed the advertiser twice as much for twice the ads and they refused to pay!

I don't know. They don't bother me at all, really. I guess I'm a more patient person. But I do hate how slow everything is an how occaisonally it just freezes or things start to show up one at a time when I page down. You know what my favorite thing about this receiver is? The HD part.
