Hey guys, I added WVNS 59 on October 1st the day after it was launched on directv. I don't watch many shows other than football on this chanel. The Steelers play every sunday on this channel that I do watch. I noticed last sunday that the HD picture was 100% junk. It had verticle purple lines on dark objects and white lines on lighter colored objects. Also, I still have the CBS HD station out of NYC. Compared side by side WVNS HD looks a little better than 480i and not even 720p. The NYC CBS station looks like a true 1080i picture. I contacted DirecTV and WVNS about this problem. They claim they do not have a problem on their end. I have noticed this problem on family member's tvs also. It is not as bad on lower resolution TVs 1080 x 720 but my tv is a 1080P Philips tv and it is like going back to the non digital cable system I learned to hate. I have read at least one post with this same problem. Can anyone confirm this problem and if so can we work together to hound DirecTV untill they correct the problem. Maybe then I can watch my Steelers in HD and not some pure junk that has a HD logo beside it.

Here is a exmaple of the NYC CBS station and WVNS CBS 59 side by side .

Notice the purple lines and also the resolution! The least little movement and you get that low resolution pixelation. Also I noticed the grass the most on WVNS is just a green blur and on the NYC station I see blades of grass. Confirmed I had the WVNS HD station and not the SD. Man I thought DirecTV was great untill this!

I am glad that I am not the only one having this issue!!!! Seeing the same issue as you are. I have contacted both and as you have and they both blame the other. WVNS told me I needed a tech to look at my setup. This is the only channel that I have a problem with so I know it is not my equipment. I will contact directv and keep hounding them.

Here is the response I get from WVNS and DirecTV:

WVNS:

I have talked to Direct TV about this issue & they tell me that they are not seeing on the signal that we are send them or on the signal that they are transmitting. They are recommending the customer (you) call 1-800-DIRECT TV & request a technician come to check you in home set up.

See below response from our Chief Engineer after contacting Direct TV's
control center. Thanks for letting us know. We are having them send
us a receiver so we can monitor at our end also...they were supposed to
do this early on but didn't. FYI we are providing them FOX in HD as
well but they say they have satellite band width issues and cannot take
it in HD.

Again, thanks for contacting us and keep me posted if you cannot get it
resolved with your local provider.

Sincerely
Chris Leister

Subject: RE: Your DirecTV Feed

I just spoke with the NOC in Colorado. They tell me that they are not
seeing it on their end & that both our channels look clean & comparable
to all the other locals. They recommended having the viewers contact
customer service to have a local tech come & check the receiver.

Also, Meluz just emailed me about our receiver. She is arranging for us
to get a local rig.

Yeah, i'm just tired of them treating us like we are stupid. I now see three people on this site with the same exact problem. The local directv techs in this area are hopeless. "Yep, you got uhhh problem but I can't help ya" Sending someone out to my house is just going to get that answer, lol

I will definitely try to hound them because I can't get cbs hd distant from ny. I live in Princeton in order to get it I would have to get a waiver from wvns and wdbj7 roanoke va
