No probably about it, they will be blacked out.

The "probably" was for D* replacing them with Canadian feeds, not about them being blacked out. :)

But DirecTV could only use the canadian feeds for CI customers, those in the home team coverage area would be blacked out from any feed.

That's true, but my main concern is NHL CI. That's what I was responding to in my original post. I would prefer the MSG feeds, but the Canadian feeds would be better then no feed. It would be great if they were Canadian HD feeds.

The more I read into this, the more I have a problem with content providers and distributors being one in the same. Ironically, MSG overpays for mediocre players while they expect other companies to overpay for mediocre programming. Between MSG and MSG+, they have about 400 sports event broadcasts per year between NHL and NBA (estimating playoffs and exclusion of national broadcast games) and want $4.10 per sub per month. YES gets $2.68 per sub per month and has around 225 sports event broadcasts per year. SNY has only the Mets at $1.95 per sub per month. When does this trend stop? Aside from sporting events, these networks really have nothing worth talking about.

If you could save $4.10 per month on your cable bill and dump MSG and MSG+, would you?

No, because I watch them. But even if they dropped them, our bills wouldn't go down anyways. Did they go down when when Versus was dropped? No, and our bill is going up again in February.

First of all, most of us don't have cable. And for my D* bill, I would pay an extra $4.10/mo right now if I could get all the MSG HD channels on NHLCI.

Also, what did you mean by "MSG overpays for mediocre players"? Are you referring to the fact that Cablevision owns the NY Rangers and MSG is a subsidary of theirs? And how can you even ask the question about saving $4.10/mo to dump MSG, after posting this?

I wonder if that affects NHL Center Ice... if that's the case and I can longer see the Devils broadcasts on Center Ice I'll have to find an alternate way to watch hockey because anyone but Doc and Chico just doesn't cut it.

Those two channels (MSG and MSG+ in HD) are the reason I switched to DTV in the first place. If they pull them I'm history.

What sux for me is if D* drops MSG, my ONLY other choice is to go with the Dolans and get CV. So either way, the Dolans screw me!!!

This. But with them spinning off the entertainment arm of their company to be seperate from their distributor arm, I wonder if this really holds true. I always thought, especially in NY, that offering MSG et al on DirecTV and Dish has to hurt their subscriber numbers. But since they will be operating seperately, I'm not sure it matters anymore.

I was asking a hypothetical... me personally, if I could get the MSG HD channels I would pay that as well. I meant TV bill but I've had cable for all my life except the past 3 months, so force of habit. But I was just wondering how many people here would be willing to drop the two for a $4.10 savings. And yes, that was a dig at the Rangers :)

If I have to get an online feed for a game to see Doc and Chico, I will do so... let's hope it doesn't come to that.

Hopefully a new accord is signed and it includes all the HD versions of those channels, along with access to MSG/+ HD feeds for NHL CI.

Let's start the new year off right, with positive attitudes :)

Does this new contract include AMC HD, WeTV HD, IFC HD, Fuse HD and Sundance Channel HD? I love Fuse its like MTV back in the 80s.

I'm through with NHLCI after this year. Until the NHL dictates to all the carriers the rules of airing the games instead of the carriers holding out on each other I wont be back. Imagine if nfl sunday ticket worked the way the nhl games does..... even though you paid extra to watch all available hockey games , a Versus holdout prevents you from seeing the game. stupid! The nhl needs to step in and demand all games of nhlci be made available to all providers who offer nhlci.

In theory it could happen with the NFL ST. If DIRECTV and ESPN got into a tiff, stopped carriage of ESPN during football season, we'd lose the Monday Night games.

Then again, ESPN would lose a lot of subscriber money needed to pay for the NFL games. :)

Cheers,
Tom

I suspect 2010 will end up having a number of carriage agreement "tiffs", with cable companies coming out on the losing end more often than the sat providers.

But sunday ticket is only for sunday games.
ESPN is monday night football....different entity.

That why there are shortcut versions on superfan of the sunday games but not the monday games.
