This is a heads-up for anyone trying to buy/watch DTV Cinema On Demand in 1080p. I first encountered this problem in mid-January. All 1080p movies display with a distortion across the bottom (+/-) 20% of the screen. The fix is to disable the 1080p resolution option, which, in turn, degrades the resolution of the movie. DTV readily admitted that the problem was on their end.

Last night (three weeks later) I purchased another movie in 1080p, only to discover the problem still existed (I cancelled the movie). I called DTV and they escalated the problem, but could not offer any ETA for a fix. Then I called and asked to talk to the retention folks. I explained that in addition to having just upgraded all of my equipment (at a cost of almost $3000) in order to receive programming (and Blu-ray) in 1080p, I was paying through the nose for DTV services, which included movies in 1080p. Granted, you have to pay for the movies, but what's the use of having a service if you can't use it! And, as I also pointed out, DTV continues to advertise this service, which they themselves admit they currently can't provide. For my complaint, I received free HD access for a year.

I rented two 1080p movies (9 and Year One) last month and experienced no distortion issues on my HR23-700 & LG 55LH90. Could there be an issue with the receiver or TV? Have you tried swapping HDMI cables and/or ports on the TV?

New TV, new A/V receiver, new HDMI cables. Old HR20-700. DTV says it's a problem on their end.

Did you try both of your HRs?
If you stop responding to them or put them on ignore, then eventually they'll go away.

I watched a 1080p movie from On Demand last night with my wife - no issues here.

No. My HR20-100 is hooked up to a non-HDTV. I would have to swap receivers to do a test. Could this be an HR20-700 problem? DTV didn't mention anything about that -- just that their engineers are working to fix the problem. Or, is this all smoke and mirrors on DTV's part?

I'll try a 1080p today on my HR20-700 & report back. You may try swapping to be sure...

All 1080p movies. Thanks for doing that. You pretty much can tell right away -- just look at the bottom of the picture. And, you probably know this, but you can cancel the purchase....

I was wondering which title b/c there have been a few cases of corrupted movies/shows. If it's an embarrassing chick flick, you can pm me.

Same here. I watched Hurt Locker in 1080p from my HR20-700 via MRV. Only watched a few minutes in 1080p as a test, having previously watched it on a 720p TV. No issues at all.

No, no embarrassing chick flick. Tried a variety: Amelia, Love Happens (chick flick?:)), Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

Possibly...a HDMI handshake issue.

Just spent about two hours on the phone with DTV. Finally was able to sqeeze more info out of them. Apparently, this is a known issue with some, but not all HR20-700s. Still no ETA on a fix. Talked to several different departments, but the takeway was, "Sorry, you're SOL until we can fix the problem, and we have no idea when that will be." :nono:

Honestly, at 1080p24 you aren't going to notice a difference anyway. Just set the HR20 to 1080i and it will look just as good.

Or, I can go and rent the Blu-rays for $2.99!
