I checked with D*. I have the Choice Extra +HD +DVR pkg. The HD-DVR combo is 12 bucks/mo. If I switch to Choice Ultimate I have to pay the new rates of 10 bucks for HD and 7 for DVR. Choice Ultimate is really 10 bucks/mo more for subscribers like me.

Choice Ultimate doesn't have a lot to offer in HD over Extra.

So the difference between this and Xtra are "Extra Movie Channels." If it doesn't include any premiums, then what are these extra movie channels?

Other than the movie channels, I see no difference from Choice Extra :icon_stup

Basically it's Xtra with the "not top of the line" movie channels. It's a package that Dish and many cable companies have offered for many years. Uverse also has a similar package. DirecTV obviously has felt some heat recently to finally add this type of package.

A little underwhelming considering DirecTV's website states that you get 10+ more HD channels with the Choice Ultimate package compared to Choice Xtra.

Perhaps they may be a tad premature... and this is a hint of things to come with D12?

Encore, Sundance, and The Movie Channel West are available in HD now, and the Encore suite has stated plans to go HD...

I've only been back for a month, so I have 12 mo's of rebates on Choice Xtra. If I change to ultimate, will it screw with my rebates?

You may want to check again:

Choice Ultimate + HD + DVR = $68.99 + 10.00 + 7.00 = $85.99

Plus HDDVR = $79.99 ($75.99 was the price before today)

Difference $7.00

:)

Plus I pay for Starz now, so even at $11 added to the $79.99, that would still make the change less. Might have to go for it.

I noticed that on the channel grid CBS College Sports moved out of Choice and Choice Xtra up to this new Choice Ultimate.

This "deal" is not really a "deal" unless you really want Encore.

I've got the old, grandfathered-in, Total Choice Plus package (listed at $57.99) plus DVR ($6), but have been interested in adding the Encore channels. Does the Choice Ultimate Package include the DVR? If not, then $68.99 ($11 more for just the Encore stations) isn't a bargain for me.

Ultimate does not include the current DVR fee of $7. It also does not include HD should you need that as well.

I've got the HD too...I just called. The price difference between my grandfathered in TC+ and Choice Ultimate isn't $11. Its $7.50. TC+ went up to $61.49 this month. I decided to try the Choice Ultimate. Its 37 channels more than TC+.

TMML :D

There's still something funny here.

I just checked with D* again. The grandfathered Choice Extra + HD + DVR pkg only went up $1 to 76.99 according to the CSR.

Upgrading to Choice Ultimate will cost 68.99 + 10.00 HD +7.00 DVR = 85.99 (I hope), so its a 9.00 differential.

Here is the math I come up with:
ChoiceExtra 63.99 + 10.00(HD) + 7.00(DVR)=80.99
ChoiceUltimate 68.99+10.00 + 7.00=85.99

Grandfathered Choice+ 61.49 +10.00 +7.00=78.49

If CSR are saying something less, you should take it.

Also,Proc, are you sure about the 37 channels?
