Well the old R-15 has been acting up. The first thing I dealt with was the issue of recordings starting and stopping at odd times. Starting late or recording two hours past the stop time. This issue has been discussed and I found the trick of reseting defaults, no thanks to D's CSR. Anyway the next thing that happened was recordings listed in my To Do List said "Will Not Record" in the column where the channel should be listed. No conflicts with other recordings and both tuners were working. CSR told me to remove and replace all of my set recordings. So far no more "Will Not Records". This was one week after reseting defaults and re-entering all of the recordings. Now I have been having more, a lot more, of my series links not recording. Has anyone had the "Will Not Record" show up in the to do list? Does everyone have at least some trouble with the series links? Does anyone believe D will ever get the R-15 software to simply work?

Have you tried to reset your receiver? I noticed that my R15 a few times recently has lost the ability to record on Tuner 2 even thought the System Test is successful. A reset of the receiver has brought back Tuner 2 and allowed it to record all my shows without issue.

Today's problems don't worry me, I haven't solved yesterday's yet.

I have not been having any problems with shows not recording. If anything, I have the opposite. Shows that are clearly marked to record 1st run only are recording reruns. But I blame the guide data. I would try as Merg suggested and do a red button reboot or a menu reset. If that does not work, then call DTV and tell them your receiver is broken and you need a new one.

Merg, yes I have done a reset (red button). That is always the first thing D's CSR will want you to do. I have experienced what you discribed with the second tuner not being used even though it tests OK. That doesn't seem to be the problem at this time. For now everything appears to be working.

Welcome to DBSTALK, Teabagger! :welcome_s

The current software on the R15 is really VERY reliable with only a very few bugs left-none of which affect missed recordings. Two years ago, I certainly would not have made that statement!! In fact, I think I am safe in saying that it is more solid than the software on the HD DVR's (my R22 has the HD DVR software in it and it still does some irksome things). ;)

If you haven't any recordings that are extremely valuable to you, I would suggest restoring everything to default AND reformatting your R15 hard drive (instructions can be found on this system by searching).

If after all this you still experience issues, I would call DirecTV and request a replacement unit. Your problems are not common to all R15's.

I spoke with a specialist at DTV last night. Not sure what makes him special but he called me! I actually liked this guy. This is the type of rep you used to get to talk to 10 years ago. He went through each issue one by one with me.

The issue of random start and stop times is a known issue that they are working on. It seems to have popped up after the last software update, around Oct./09 He couldn't tell me what percentage of receivers are affected. Next update will address this. The work around (what worked for me, this did not come from direct) was a "Reset Defaults". Has worked for two weeks so far.

"Will Not Record" showing to the right of a scheduled program in the to do list. Not a known issue. No previous notes on it. It is noted now. If more calls come in with this it will become an issue with a high enough percentage. Work around, remove all scheduled recording including series links and replace. Has been working for one week so far.

Series links not recording, show in guide and prioritizer but not to do list. Known issue, has been for a long time, they are working on it. Work around, reset, reformat, replace, kick, cuss, scream, and check the "To Do List"

For now they are leaving my trouble report open. My hope is the next software update will correct these issues. For now the work arounds are working. If troubles escalate , at my choosing, I can do a reformat or they will send me a replacement receiver.

Teabagger, you might be interested in the Cutting Edge program conducted right here on DBSTALK.COM. You need to register and then you will get access to special forums. Participants who agree to the rules can download test software and report problems which are read by the engineers at DirecTV.

Since you have done more than just complain about your R15 and even managed somehow to get a call back from a technician at DirecTV, you might really enjoy the program. I have been a participant for over two years and it is very interesting and rewarding. Check it out!!
