i agree that redundancy is foolish, so lets drop the east coast feed. do we really need a duplicate feed of what we already get on our west coast feed?

But east coast bias rules....just ask ESPN. :D

I sure the hell hope the DirecTV doesn't waste HD bandwidth on both an east coast and west coast feed of the same channel. Its just delayed 3 hrs, we have DVRs for a reason people.

Pick one or the other, don't waste valuable bandwidth on both east and west feeds of the same thing.

Hopefully any bandwidth saved could be use on other Channels even if it's channels I don't watch.

West Coast feeds of Linear Movie channels quite possibly the single most bandwidth wasting use that D could employ.

I understand others will disagree.

Wouldn't "EncoreHD" be a new channel? I don't think it is in HD now.

Encore east IS in HD, Encore west isn't nor are any of the spinoffs

While I don't care if its the west coast or east coast feed they keep, i think the east coast feeds would win out.

Logically, it would seem to be a bad business decision to show programming at 11pm on the east coast, rather than at 5pm on the west coast. You'd lose more viewers by having a show premier at 11pm on the east than having it at 5pm on the west.

I really think the population density is greater on the eastern half of the US than the western half.

Since D* already has all of the Encore thematics, I highly doubt they would bother adding Movieplex, since it's just a duplicate of the other Encores on a rotating daily basis... ;)

RETROHD, INDIEHHD and MOVIEPLEXHD has different movies than STARZ/ENCORE.

Uh, I ONLY said Movieplex...I DO understand Retro & Indie ARE different.
But as I said, Movieplex just rotates among the 7 other Encores, & as such, is just another (band-wasting) duplication of existing channels.

Why would they be splitting off Cinemax West HD from Cinemax West SD?? That's stupid and is the first red flag of this thread. DirecTV prides itself on having the receiver decided which to tune to, putting both the SD & HD on the same channel number. And where's Cinemax EAST HD? I only see "Cinemax East" (assuming SD)... No other channels are listed as splitting their SD & HD to separate channels.

If the capacity is there, having both the east and west feeds is useful, so I would say add them (at least for now) and then in the future if there are other unique channels that could be added to the premium packages and capacity is an issue, most people would gladly lose a west coast mirror channel in exchange for the addition of a new unique channel.

Yeah, I kind of agree. Let's keep this to discussion of new channel locations.

Maybe I'm being optimistic, but the fact that there is now room for 14 HBO channels may mean that they plan on adding every HBO channel that is currently available (7 channels * 2 feeds of each). Hopefully they will do that and have them all in HD.

I'm thinking it was most likely a typo. Max East HD is actually the only HD channel that is called out on the list at all (other than HDNet Movies), all the rest talk about the channel itself and I assume they mean both the HD and SD channel will move. I'm thinking Max West will be 516, MoreMax East will be 517, and MoreMax West will be 518 (assuming they are added).

It's been fixed in on the PDI website (and in the graphic in post #8 since that just hotlinks to the PDI website). Now MAX-W SD and HD are both shown as moving from 514 to 516, but they could also remove the MAX-W HD row entry since none of the other rows differentiate between SD and HD.

Two problems here:
1. The 500 channels are reserved for Premium movie channels- the ones you pay extra for. FMC and TCM are in basic packahes and MGM, HDNew and (one would presume, Hallmark Movie Channel) are in the HD Extras pack. Why would they put them in with the premiums?

2. Channels 559-569 are the test channels-DirecTV just moved them there a few months ago, why would they suddenly move them again?

DIRECTV employee April 2004-November 2012.
The above comments are my own because I don't know if anyone would care about my opinions anymore.

Hey it’s all just a guess. I was only pointing out that now D* could add every premium channel east coast feed and many West coast feeds. I added FMC and the others because I wanted to put all of the commercial free channels together. Truthfully I think D* will add all 14 HBO’s in HD, All of the max channels I listed, Encore East and West HD, Sundance HD, IFC HD, and maybe the two Plex HD channels. I think most people would be very happy if the made these additions to the premium lineup.

A few things.

The original list is not entirely accurate.

No, not every slot will be filled with channels as some have projected here.

The 500's is not just for Premiums, hasn't been in ages and still will have some other diversity

More to come. In the end, this is a good thing as some additional channels will be coming to this channel range, but too much speculation (I know, it's fun) at this point. Announcement soon enough on what is coming and it won't be the final announcement.

Hang tight, good things ahead very very soon.

Yes, as has been discussed in the thread, the original list has changed at the source link to fix one inaccuracy, and still seems to have some "issues".

No, not every slot will be filled with channels as some have projected here.

I don't recall any such projections. Just pointing out of what there is room for and speculation of how that room could be used.
