Please use this thread to discuss your feelings about upcoming national HD channels.

This thread will not be as tightly moderated as the rest of the site, but here's the tradeoff... in exchange for your being able to rant a bit more, you can be assured that absolutely no one at DIRECTV will be using this thread for reference.

You can ask for new HD all you want, but DIRECTV's marketing department knows that the 100-150 contributors to this thread are only a small part of the 18,000,000 total subscribers.

Please remember that all forum rules are still in effect, and please do not "bump" this thread. Other threads that do nothing but anticipate HD channels for which there is no information will be closed.
Opinions expressed by me are my own and do not necessarily reflect

..and all that being said, I expect some new HD channels this quarter. If you're interested in monitoring the progress of the DIRECTV12 satellite, check out this thread.

This is meant as a resource. I wanted to lay out an easy to read comparison of what you gain and lose between D* and E*. Channel Count Only.

DirecTV has that Dish does not:

4. the 101 HD
5. Smithsonian HD
6. YES HD, NESN, FSN’S, CSN’S, Altitude, and other 24/7 RSN’s.
7. Most games are available nationally in HD when you subscribe to the required sports package. (No one else can claim this)

Dish has that DirecTV does not:

36. Turner Classic Movies HD

D* recently stated they will have the capacity for over 200 HD channels after D12 in 1st half 2010, I have listed the most likely additions.

* Announced either Officially or Unofficially

These are announced or highly speculated.

If D* adds 40-70 HD channels in the next 4-12 weeks based on most likely candidates and channels already announced I believe that it is safe to say D* could add many of these channels by July 2010.

Other HD channels not likely to be added:

1. Shorts HD
2. Epix HD
3. Wealth TV
4. CSPAN 3 HD
5. Starz Cinema HD

For some reason, I was thinking about Hutchinshouse while reading the closing comment of the Q1 thread. The restraint in waiting to post five is very cool. And i really appreciate that your pleasant post beat the "ESPNU/D* Lied" posts.

I am tingling with excitement for the upcoming HD and the "worst channel ever" posts that will follow. Maybe, just maybe, we will get the Garden Gnome HD channel!

Maybe change this:
"D* recently stated they will have the capacity for up to 200 HD channels"

To this:
"D* recently stated they will have the capacity for over 200 HD channels"

All over their site they're stating "over" 200.

Thanks for posting the data. Peace!

I'm hoping for local CW HD while Supernatural is still in existence! We have all of our locals, even the unaffiliated, formerly UPN, channel 21 in Reno in HD except CW (channel 46). I know I shouldn't complain, but channel 21 is not even a major channel, so why no CW?

I think you should re-do the poll since Versus ended up at number 8 and as everyone knows it was a carriage dispute not a lack of capacity issue.
