I just got an H24 for my MRV set up, it is located in the kitchen inside a cabinet, I like the way it auto programs but apparantly it will not work in RF so I have to open the cabinet to use the remote. Is there any device that I can add like a repeater or sometning that I can put outside the cabinet to operate the H24 as if it was in RF mode?

What model remote did you get with your H24?

RC65x [with no R], so it doesn't have RF mode.
RC65RX is what does.

I got a brand new DirecTv RF (RC65R) off ebay the other day for $12.94 after shipping. Worked great, so I bought one for my pops...

yes it is an RC65RX, but I cannot get it to do RF, what options would I have, it is a pain to leave the cabinet door open all the time! Oh, and another thing it is controlling an Insignia (Best Buy's store brand TV) and Friday afternoon when I set it up it controlled the TV perfectly, Saturday morning it would not turn the TV on, it would control the volume and turn it off, but not turn on, go figure!

 I'm using it in RF mode.
You may need to go into the advanced programing menu, but it's there.
These are the steps:
1. dtv [slider at the top]
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT for two blinks
3. enter 0 0 0 0 1
4. press and hold MUTE & SELECT for two blinks
5. enter 9 6 1
6. press CH UP
7. enter the last 6 digits of the receivers ID #, found on a sticker in the access card compartment
8. press SELECT

Did you set both the remote and H24 to RF mode?

:)

I don't really know, I followed VOS's instructions, I thought that is all I had to do, is there another step?

You also need to set the receiver for RF:
Menu -> Parental, Fav's & Setup -> System Setup -> Remote Control

My H24 came with a RC65X (no RF) but it works fine with my RC32RB RF remote.

yep I did that, I went through the menu, I guess if everybody else has not had a problem it might be either 1) the remote is bad or 2) I mis-read the model # of the remote!

Check that it has the "R", which doesn't come with the H24s. Without the "R" it isn't an RF remote.

With the receiver and Rf remote both in IR mode, these are the steps to switch to RF mode:

Enter the menu:

1. menu>parental, fav's, & setup> system setup> remote> IR/RF>

2. you will see either IR or RF, tap whichever to reveal both

3. pressing RF or RF and then DONE, the remote won't work any longer, now do the following on the remote:

a) dtv

B) press and hold MUTE & SELECT for two blinks

c) enter 9 6 1

d) press CH UP

e) enter the last 6 digits of the receiver ID #, found on a sticker in the access card compartment

f) press SELECT

I did that but perhaps in the reverse order, I will try again tonight, thanks for the reply

OK, just call me a mo-ran! It's an RC65X not an RC65RX, sorry to waste everybody's time, I will order the right remote.
