My local NBC-HD affiliate station was also doing some stupid fund-raising
thing for sick children. They shifted the live French Open final to the
subchannel on -2.... which isn't carried via satellite.
During the fund-raising, the hosts keep saying:
"good morning folks, if you're just tuning in now for the French Open
finals, you're out of luck... but our children are in luck because you now have
the chance to donate your money for a good cause! Grab your credit, debit
or checkbook and call the number you see on the screen now... repeat, there's
nothing wrong with your TEEVEE set... two men in shorts hitting a green ball or
what you(pointing to a female host standing next to him) call the French Open
FEE-NA-LAE in PAAH-REEEESE can be seen on our subchannel, but do not change
the channel on your clicker until you've called and donated for this very worthy
cause" (just played it back again so I can write down the exact quote)
Wow... what a way to anger tennis fans.... (just to clarify, I hate tennis...
I only recorded it so my girlfriend can watch it... but now that it recorded hours
of fund-raising cr*p, my girlfriend is blaming me.... guess it's the couch for
me tonight ) Oh well... there's always the re-run on Tennis Channel in
a few days....
What do French Open officials and NBC corporate have to say about what the
local NBC station has done? (not to mention the advertisers of French Open)
