When DISH does these changes and your are watching the channel, will it affect the picture. Will you loose the signal if they are moving from one transponder to another.

Usually not, but theoretically you could see short interruption.

When DISH does these changes and your are watching the channel, will it affect the picture. Will you loose the signal if they are moving from one transponder to another.

It would depend on the change. A channel move (same channel moving between transponders) isn't normally done without taking the channel off the air for half an hour or so.

The recent moves where channels changed numbers involve setting up an second channel for a week then moving the first to a "goodbye" slate. If you were watching the "old channel" at the moment the slate appeared you should see a small interruption followed by the slate. (The current slate lists Earth, Reelz, Sportsman and Outdoor Channel and is visible on channels 153, 285 and 295 for those who subscribe to AT250 or above - or just channel 295 for subscribers to AT200 or below. Reelz is listed even though it ended up staying on 299 as well as moving to 289 - my best guess is that Reelz has a contract specifying channel 299 that they are enforcing.)

Other changes (other than moving) should have no affect on someone viewing the channel at the time of change. Making a channel unavailable should cause the channel to immediately cut off. But most of the changes should not cause a glitch.

A message from the Department of Speculation:

The 5870 range where these channel were added is normally used for DISH's internal test channels before being moved to a "public" number or discarded (if the only purpose of the channel is a test).

I wonder when the AMC/IFC/WE/FUSE contract is expiring? We may be seeing channel 128, 130, 131 and 158 "move" to a slate explaining why the channels are missing. :(

As Geoff Peterson would say: Uh oh!

Until no longer needed and someone remembers to take them down.
I've seen some things there for years (in Uplink Reports).
They certainly are not in that range for any customer to use.
