Not sure what forum this would fit best in, it is a suggestion more than anything.

How about one of the DTV channels with fast background guide filling. It would be nice to be able to simply tune to one of their "information" channels and get the two weeks of guide in an hour or less.

That's a heck of an idea, perhaps not practical in terms of available bandwidth, but I sure like the sound of it.:) Then again, that channel won't be making them any money, and that could be an issue as well.

I was talking about one of their own "information" channels, not a dedicated channel. They could put it on the channel that the rec. defaults to after a reboot. This would help a lot when they are recovering from the mass reboots as well. If guide data needs to be flushed and you rebooted to a channel that could fill it more quickly, that would be great.

I understand the bandwidth issue however it is a very important part of the service. IMO - It would benefit users as well as customer service and should be treated with value.

And for those of us that go through or upgrade several DVR's a year it sure would make setting up the SP's a lot easier. :-)

It would also benefit those of us who lose guide data every week when we participate in the firmware testing process.:)

The test channels that are out there would seem to be good candidates. They exist on several different satellites, meaning that they are available even if you lose sight of one sat.

hmmmmm
