I got a SWM LNB early on. I have noticed in the summer and now during the day my signal levels are a good 5-6 points lower on certain transponders during the day then they are at night. I know there was issues with the LNB during the winter months and below 0 weather but has anyone heard of heat issues?

I know there was issues with the LNB during the winter months and below 0 weather but has anyone heard of heat issues?


Don't really know anything more than the next guy, but FWIW, we just went through a small heat wave here in southern California, and I had no issues with our signal. Granted, I was not checking the signal strengths, but there was no reason to do so.

The temperature peaked at approx 104 degrees, and the SWM LNB is in direct sunlight.

It could also be related to the amount of moisture in the atmosphere between you and the sat. If it gets below 80, then call DTV to have them check it out. Tell them you are getting LOS. Unelss the signals are in the 60s, they won't do anything.

It doesnt affect 101/110/119, only 99/103. There are several transponders that drop from 93ish to mid 80's, then bounce back at night

It doesnt affect 101/110/119, only 99/103. There are several transponders that drop from 93ish to mid 80's, then bounce back at night


The dish is essentially centered on 101 and the rotation of the dish around 101 is what bring a good clear signal to 99 and 103. It does the same for 110, 119, but the 110 and 119 beams are wider and have a bigger tolerance for being out of alignment. If 99 and 103 are having problems, then it is still a dish alignment problem. The rotation needs to be tweaked.

Just a little heating and cooling can cause warping and movement in the dish and mounting hardware. If it is not perfect, yiou may see changes in signal. You may also have a bad cable connector . Make sure that are all tight and waterproof.

Had a problem in SoCal on Channel 4 NBC LA. Saturday and Sunday had 771 errors. Magically, they went away yesterday.

If 101W, 110W and 119W are all good but the Ka birds are low, there's a pretty good chance that your elevation is off. It is not all that easy to have 101W and 119W right and have the slant wrong.
