Just short of DOD for internet enabled DVRS (btw anyone know how fast or slow it's throughput is on fast internet lines), but does the receiver firmware know to use it for other functions for bandwidth purposes like

- Guide Data
- PPV (purchase)

It uses the broadband connection for reporting PPV purchases and for sending some information to the DIRECTV servers depending on your privacy preferences.

I also believe the receiver uses your internet connection for Local's on the 8's on The Weather Channel. I am only guessing because it does not allow trickplay for the Local's part.

Nope, internet not used for that since non internet connected STB's get it.

TVApps is another thing that uses the internet connection for.

See post My Setup for configuration info.

It uses the broadband connection for reporting PPV purchases and for sending some information to the DIRECTV servers not depending on your privacy preferences, because they default back to anonymous anytime you do anything with your account in the slightest.

Fixed it for ya. :D I keep having to change mine back to opt-out, it is getting rather annoying.
