I have a question about the DTV protection plan (which I pay for). I am thinking about purchasing an HR20-700 HD-DVR that is supposedly owned by the seller (I know to check the RID # before buying). My question is, if this unit is indeed an owned unit, and I buy and get it activated as an owned unit, will DirecTV cover it with the Protection Plan, i.e. if it were to die, would they replace it with another HD-DVR and would that DVR also be owned by me?

Yes. Owned equipment is covered and will be replaced with a like (but not necessarily identical) owned equipment if it fails.

i believe it has to be a straight up replacement unless your hr20 dies and there are no hr20's to replace. not sure if you would get an hr24.

Sure. You could also get an HR20, HR21, HR22, or HR23. DirecTV considers them all to be equal.

Make sure they un-check the OTA option or you will get another HR20. I would be afraid of getting an HR21-100 that way though :D
