Ok guys, woke up this morning and they took wonderful full HD (even the local news) Jacksonville 25 away and referred people to channel 11 which is clearly the same as on WALB 10-2 OTA NON-HD but stretched! So great, Raycom creates a 'local' ABC channel but broadcasts it in 480p?!? We get a huge downgrade in quality. I refuse to watch it. I'm 9-1 ABC Columbus in HD until this is corrected.

I spoke to Jim Wilcox about this months ago... and he informed me that WALB will be providing an HD feed (with DD5.1) to cable and satellite providers.

His hope was that due to DirecTV's uplink equipment being AT WALB, it would be easy for them to offer this HD feed, but I have been skeptical about it since WJXX was being broadcast to Albany via the Jacksonville, FL spot-beam, and I didn't think DirecTV has enough space on the spot-beam without moving some stuff around... which hopefully they will do soon.

As for OTA ABC, I recommend trying out WTXL as well... I get a stronger signal from them than WTVM.

As for the "S-T-R-E-T-C-H-I-N-G" issue, I'm assuming that's a technical issue that DirecTV will straighten out shortly (hopefully by mentioning it here, it won't go unnoticed). :)

I had an email exchange with Jim today. He said the feed is HD. The stretching is DTV taking an SD feed and trying to make it widescreen. If you look at the DTV locals site for Albany it shows 11 ABC 'SD' :( :( :(

I asked Jim if we could get waiver's until DTV has the bandwidth. He ignored my question. :(

Channel(s) affected: PBS - WXGA/GPB (14)
Date: August 25, 2011 (the problem has been going on for days, but I'm not sure when it started).
Time: 24 hours a day
Description of Issue: GPB has no guide data. It only states "To Be Announced." We had a similar problem last year with ABC/CW.

Channel(s) Affected: WSWG - CBS (44)
Date: It started a few weeks ago, and hasn't gotten any better...
Time: I've noticed it during prime-time, but not sure about any other times of day.
Description of Issue: Frequent audio drop-outs... lasting as quick as seconds, and as long as a minute. Watching a 30 minute program requires use of Closed Captioning. WFXL (FOX 31) had this issue for a week or two, but it appears to be fixed now. No other channel is experiencing this issue now.

Channel(s) Affected: WSWG - CBS (44)
Date: It started a few weeks ago
Time: Unsually noticed on Sunday afternoons during NFL games
Description of Issue: Somewhat similar to Alan's post except that I have video drop-outs. The audio is fine, but the video will freeze for 1 to 3 seconds. Very aggravating during a football game. No issues with other channels.

Alan,

I called DTV about this today. I don't want to miss the new Nova series starting this week. I spent about 30 min with them on the phone before they were convinced it was not my equipment. :( They filled out a form to be sent to the station. Everyone else needs to call and complain as well. Not having guide data is ok for a few days but almost 90 days? Unacceptable.

So now if there was ABC HD, all would be well?

Well, we don't have the second sub-channel for GPB (14-3, 25-3), or MyNetworkTV (44-2), and The CW is in SD.

Granted, The CW being in SD is not DirecTV's fault, but it's disappointing nonetheless.

So, no, all would NOT be well, but it'd be a major improvement. :)

Not an issue, but my thanks to DirecTV for adding ABC (WALB-DT2) in HD.

WSWG-DT3 (The CW) will be going HD sometime in 2013... let's get to work on adding it as soon as possible! :D
