In the last couple of weeks, I've gotten the chance to try a few brand new HR24-500 receivers. They all show the same video quality issues - blacks are not very black, colors look a little washed out, and any SD content viewed at 1080i original format is very jagged and not scaled correctly. There is also a slight underscan. The problems are with both HDMI and component connections. I've also tried different monitors and cables. The color/black level issue can be adjusted for, but the jagged SD is a pretty bad problem.

I also got a new HR24-100 that locks up when fast forwarding or rewinding recorded content and totally loses sound when watching live TV and pausing, rewinding or fast forwarding. I've determined that the receiver does not like my Denon AVR-2807 receiver. Once I bypass and hook it up directly to my monitors, the lock ups seem to go away. But I want to use my Denon one of these days since it worked great with my HR21's.

When I call their tech support, Directv just wants to replace the receivers.

I've seen a few posts about all of these symptoms I've brought up here and on Directv's forums. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how to make Directv aware and have them contact me to try to fix these issues?

Well, with the multitude of configurations...I have an HR24-100 that has never locked up, connected through a Sony AV Receiver (several years old)...if you have issues you can always post them in the Issues thread for the software release that your box is currently running...for instance, if your box is running 03E0, then post your issues in this thread: http://www.dbstalk.c...ad.php?t=178521

Thanks. I reported the HR24-500 issue in that thread. I do not see an issues thread for 03E4 on the HR24-100 so I'll wait on that one.

I think this boils down to how some TV's handle the RGB output, as opposed to others.

How would RGB cause lock ups?
If you stop responding to them or put them on ignore, then eventually they'll go away.

It doesn't. The thread wasn't ONLY about lockups.

You're confused, I agree. Little deduction is hard to come by. I'll be sure to be more specific for you next time.

Quoting a specific problem mentioned will help others who may have the RBG issue understand your post. If someone has a HR24-100 locking up were to see your blanket statement, then they make think RGB was to blame.

My 3 HR24-500s work perfectly fine. All in DECA/SWM with broadband. No problem with DirecTV APPs either.

My first 24-500 had very low chroma and poor blacks, its replacement is much better - either as good or close to my former 21-100.

Currently, a few times a few, when I turn on the 24-500 and my HDTV - no picture, no sound!

I have to change the channel and then the signal kicks in.

Strange!!!!

It's probably and HDMI handshake issue. Maybe post you equipment for that location and others can chime in with thoughts.

It's appearing that the latest CE may have fixed the HR24-100 HDMI handshake lockup issues.
