i am trying to figure out if choice ultimate will save money vs the choice extra +hd

08/05 09/04 PLUS HD DVR Monthly 79.99
08/05 09/04 DIRECTV HD EXTRA PACK Monthly 4.99
08/05 09/04 DIRECTV DVR Service $7.00/mo IncludPkg 0.00
08/05 09/04 DIRECTV on DEMAND Tune to info 0.00

08/06 Primary Leased Receiver 5.00
Adjustments & Credits

08/06 Primary Leased Receiver -5.00 Credit

Sales Tax 4.67

how much of that would get added to the 68.99 and how much is baked into the 79.99

seeing as you need choice ultimate or higher for the free hd for life

Very close to what I am trying to figure out, I have 2 additional receivers and the monthly is 101.23. I would like to see it cut by $10 at least, but to get the "free HD" you have to signup for automatic bill pay (NOT).

Assuming you could only get the free HD with Choice Ultimate or higher, you would save $4/mo. Choice Ultimate is $68.99 + DVR $7 + Free HD= $75.99 vs. $79.99.

Although, you should call to see if you can get the free HD with your current package. I have your same package and if I wasn't already receiving an HD credit from last year, they would have given me the 2 year free HD credit. Supposedly, when my old credit ends in Sept, I can call and they will add it for me then.

i just called and asked for the retention dept to see about getting a 1 year $10/mo programming credit re-applied after it expired last month. i nicely said i was just trying to keep their services and hoped they could re-apply it to our choice pkg. after 3 tries (got cut off on hold the first 2), she said she would give us a $250 one time credit! this happened a few years ago too, where they re-offered something way over what i was asking for.

I've been curious about much the same thing.

I've been poking around online and since the site does not actually "compare" packages, just clutters the page with the channels so you have to sort it out, this is what I see as the differences.

Choice +HD/DVR (79.99) vs Choice Extra (63.99)

1. No Channel Difference that I could see
2. HD included in Choice + ($10 add on for Choice)
3. DVR included in Choice + ($7 add on for Choice)

So to change to Choice and add HD and DVR it will cost $1 more than someone who is "grandfathered" with Choice +HD/DVR. Only problem is that you may not be able to add or drop the HD extra pack without changing.

Moving on.

The differences between Choice + HD/DVR (79.99) and Choice Ulitmate (68.99)are
1. HD included in Choice + ($10 add on for Ultimate)
2. DVR included in Choice + ($7 add on for Ultimate)
3 15 extra channels in Ultimate (9 Encore, 1 Sonic Tap, 2 Sundance, 3 Movie Channel) (no price, since no way to add)

In the end if you called the 15 extra channels worth $0 (for argument sake) Then The difference between the two packages is $6. If the added value of those 15 channels is worth $6 or more, then upgrading from Choice + HD/DVR to Ultimate and adding HD and DVR would be worth it, otherwise it wouldn't be.

So, I'm going to stay with Choice +HD/DVR
