got a slimline3 from a friend who wasnt using any more and tried to swap with my 18 round but using my same receiver. Got all coordinates (including tilt) but still get virtually nothing (just 2 transponders on 101 with signals). Any ideas about what may be causing the problem?

Did you change the dish type in the receiver setup screen from round to the slimline?

In system setup make sure the type of dish is correct. Enter your zip code and note the required azimuth, elevation and tilt. Make sure your mast is plumb - use a level do not depend on the 'bubble level'. Set the dish for elevation and tilt. Place it on the mast and rotate to the specified azimuth. Set the receiver to view signals on 101. Now rotate the dish slowly until you see signal. peak the signal on 101 as best as possible - you should be in the 90-95 range.

Since you have as SD receiver you won't see 99 or 103, but you can dither the antenna using the fine tuning adjustments for best signal on 101.

Your present problem is that the antenna is aligned on 110 not 101. Redo setup as outlined above and you can align on 101.

Looking South 110 is to the right of 101. In other words rotate the dish toward the East from where it presently is pointed by about 9 degrees.

First, welcome to DBSTALK.COM! :welcome_s

Just out of curiosity, what receiver(s) do you have and what do you expect to gain by upgrading your 18" round dish with a Slimline? DirecTV won't activate HD Access on your account unless you bend over and pay for a leased HD receiver and commit to/extend to a new 2 year commitment... This normally INCLUDES a slimline dish and installation.
