Dish does:D

Dish does what? I didn't know Dish had any channels broadcast in 1920x1080 resolution...SD+ doesn't count as HD.

Yes, ALL shopping channels will be in HD!:P

That would beat trying to watch them in blur-o-vision, and it would also show that D*is adding HD channels that aren't, Premium, Sports or PPV.

I have DirecTV but are you actually arguing that somehow Dish doesn't have one up on DirecTV with certain channels (like AMC-HD)? SD+, as you called it, is still way better than SD. I hope they add this channel soon.

I recently switched to TWC for the majority of my tv programming (keeping D* for a couple channels) and I get BBCA HD and have watched more of it in the past two weeks than since the channel was launched. Law & Order UK, Luther and Top Gear look great in HD.

TWC has given out some sweet deals to get you switch too, and if they are your only alternative for high speed internet, you are sorta forced. However I have been with them for going on two years now, because of Dish's refusal to add MSG HD's and YES; and must admit their HD offering list has grown beyond what I expected, plus their startover, lookback, YNN Channel and ESPN Goal Line Channel are pretty sweet too.
Just give me the Sabres and Yankees in HD.

Our local cable provider is offering triple play free for 2 months, free installation. Thats about $140 a month, so $280 in savings. That pays for the ETF doesn't it? Isn't the ETF $200 with DirecTV? Seriously thinking about it. The local cable provider just this week added 10 new HD's and now they are up to 102. You only have to remain a customer 30 days after the promo. Hell if it's free maybe I'll run both services for 3 months. I already have internet and phone through them. They just have to remove a filter out in the green box and install one of their ****ty Pace DVR's.

cypherx, the early termination fee with DirecTV starts at $480 and goes down $20 for each month you complete on your contract.

I'd suspend your DirecTV account for the three months if you wanted to try an alternative. That way you could punt back to DirecTV if you aren't satisfied.

Though it may be better than SD, I would rather wait and have 1920x1080 resolution than SD+. I don't think Dish or DirecTV should be able to add an HD channel in less than the original resolution and call it HD. While Dish feeds aren't "bad", they certainly are not the quality of DirecTV.

IMHO, to me if the channel isn't in HD then I don't get it. D* SD on a 65" projection is just unwatchable. Not to say I wouldn't enjoy the programming once it's in HD, as I'm now discovering on Travel Channel, but my family just doesn't even watch something in SD anymore. Haven't for a long time. Not saying I would want to settle for "HD lite" as some call it, but at that resolution it might actually be watchable to me. Just my opinion

An article on HD penetration..

http://tvbythenumber...TVbytheNumbers)

Not really good news for the anticipators.

But the best part is the first comment..

"You’ve got to be kidding. A 18 month after the switch over and we there are still a bunch of people who don’t know the difference. Ouch that hurts. "

I've also ready the penetration is much higher than that - remember - these are estimates based on sample "polls".

What inflates the number is the folks who have an HDYV, and then fail to subscribe to HD service. Boggles the mind.

For anyone with a LCD or Plasma I strongly recommend calibrating your TV. Your picture quality will be greatly improved even with SD.

Yeeouch! Wow $480! I thought it was similar to the cell phone industry, around $200-300.

If you're gonna take a shot, get your terms correct! :)

It is 'HD Lite' not SD+

The only character needed for SD is SD- for the SD D* puts out... Just sayin'! :)

While calibration certainly is the best way to do it, with the Panasonic line of plasmas, there is a few discussions about using some offsets for them on AVSForums. I used that for my Panasonic S1 plasma and have since seen one professionally calibrated. The one professionally done is a bit better than mine, but not $400 better which is what a professional calibration costs around here.
