I have an HR21-100 and while trying to reset the remote with the 981 code the remote stopped working. The remote works on my other receiver, which is an HR22-100, but that remote won't work on the 21-100. I called technical support and the girl there said she would send me a new receiver because she thinks something went wrong with the receiver. I hope this makes sense. Anyway, while I probably have a window before the new one ships, does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem? I did a red button reset, by the way.
Thanks.

I finally figured out how to fix the problem. I was able to get into setup and changed my remote from RF to IR and that seems to have solved the problem. Got the replacement canceled and now I don't have to worry getting everything cleared out on my To Do List. I am happy.

Its a far cry but might be possible, check your remote settings in the system setup menus of the HR21, and see if it somehow switched itself to RF mode. This did happen before a few months ago to multiple HDDVR type receivers in relation to a software download. So I would definitely check that just to be sure.

Ha! I started my post before yours was there, then once posted you had already posted the same solution. Nice work.

I agree that the phone rep did a lousy job. I think she just wanted to get rid of me and figured a new receiver would do the trick. I just didn't want to have to watch all my recordings without being able to fast forward through all the commercials. I was getting pretty desperate there so figured looking at the remote setup again was worth a try. I headed off the new shipment so I am a happy camper.
