I really want to get an HR24 DVR to replace our HR20-700 and wanted to know if anyone knew of any deals or coupon codes or whatever. I see Solid Signal has it for $199 as well as Weaknees. Weaknees has free shipping however while Solid Signal charges about $13.50. Anyone know of any codes to use at Solid Signal or Weaknees?

Call Directv before you buy. Sometimes they offer deals that involve things like your history with them, and your agreement for 2 more years.

I think the issue is the guarantee of an HR24, not the price.

If they guarantee me an HR24 I'll sign up for 2 years since I'll have to do that if I buy one from someone else anyways ;)

Don't believe them if they "guarantee" you an HR24. You'll get whatever is next on the shelf and they have no way to specify a specific model. Stick with an authorized dealer, like Weaknees or Solid Signal.

Yea I know that's why I was asking if anyone had any coupon codes or whatever for them to bring the price down a little more.

That is always a possibility. Check with DirecTV before you buy to see if they will give you a credit towards purchasing from a retailer.

Keep in mind that any box you "buy" from a retailer will be leased and subject to the same terms and conditions as one obtained from DirecTv.

When my old receiver died, I bought a new HR24-200, as D* would not offer any guarantees as to what model I would receive as a replacement - or even whether or not it would be a new unit, or a refurbished one. I got mine through Amazon, from a dealer in Texas - I think the total cost was about $185.
I did ask D* about getting a credit, and was told it couldn't be done. How are some of the users getting a $200 credit on their account when they purchase a receiver from someone other than D*?
Bedroom: HR23-700 feeding Integra DTR-6.8 via HDMI, into 42" Toshiba REGZA 42RV53OU LCD.
Theater: HR22-100 into Anthem Statement D2 via HDMI, into Aragon 8008X3 amps, then into JVC DLA-RS2U projector.
Living Room: HR24-200 feeding Yamaha RX-A3000 via HDMI, into 55" Toshiba 55UL605U LCD.

DirecTV user since 2000.

You could try ebay or amazon marketplace and save a few bucks. Personally, I went with solid signal when I upgraded my HR20's to HR24's.

My question is, when I buy DVR myself (not from DTV) does it come with those B Band converter modules, or do I have to buy them separately?
http://www.amazon.co...95106093&sr=1-1

I have HR22-100 and HR24-100, and both have pair of those modules. And I plan to upgrade my third DVR, R-15.

B-Band converters are not included with new DVR's. If you need them, just call Directv, and they will send all you need for free.

Thanks mcbeevee.

I had new HR24-100 set up before new year. When installer finished he couldn't get something to work. Then he said: "Oh, my fault!". Then he connected two B-Band converters and everything worked. My HR22-100 in another room also has two of those. I guess I will need them if I buy(lease) another HR24.

After first getting that kind of story as well, I went to http://investor.dire.../contact_cs.cfm and sent a nice message explaining what I wanted in terms of a whole home upgrade and a credit to offset my getting 2 HR24s from a local dealer. The advocacy teams then called me the next day and met me half way and gave me $100 per to offset each DVR, and also reduced the whole home upgrade fee by $100. Some have gotten better deals than that, but it was good enough for me.

I thought starting with the HR23 the B-band converters were not required anymore.

Have you checked Craigslist, I found a couple of good deals on there.

The 23 series wasn't a start, it was an exception.

With the current equipment (SWM that is) BBCs are not needed, so D* has no need to spend money on wide band tuners for the 24 series when millions of people won't need them.

I understand the way the lease works. However, I'm not in a contract right now. If I get an HR24, will that auto-enroll me in a new 2 year contract?
