Hi all,
I am trying to gauge what receiver I might get if I were to order an H series from DTV?
I want to add an H series to use as an MRV client. So, I can't use an H20. I'd like an H24, but I can live with an H21/22/23 as this is going into a 2nd guest bedroom.

If I order directly from DTV is there still an chance that they'd send an H20 or are they done with these?

Thanks,

Dino

Personally, if you can afford it, spend the $79-99.00 and order one from one of the online sellers like Solid Signal, and get the H24. Its a much nicer and faster receiver.

Tivo Premier XL4, Tivo Premier, Tivo HD whole home on Xfinity HD, DirecTv Whole Home with 39" high gain KaKu dish, Roku3,SageTv 8 TB Win8 Server -> DVDO Edge-> Denon AVR, Klipsch KB15's/Panasonic 55ST60 plasma"

If you have MRV enabled that should help your chances of not getting an H20, if they are even still sending them out.

I can afford it, I am just trying to justify it. DTV is offering me a potluck H model for $50 shipped. Solid Signal is $112.95. ($100 + shipping).

Thanks

I've got the "non-supported" ethernet MRV.

Totally talking out my butt here but my feeling is that there's a 10-20% chance you're getting an h20. Now if you're getting the 50 offer for an h, the chances are you're getting the 100 offer for the hr. If you want to be guaranteed an mrv unit you should go for that and as a bonus you'll get more recording and a chance at an hr24

I like what your butt is saying. (sounded weird) I didn't even realize that there was an offer for the HDDVR for me. I decided that I didn't want to spend $200 so I went right to the HD receiver link and saw the $50 offer. I ordered the HDDVR just now.

Thanks,

If you have MRV turned on, the system is flagged to NOT send you an H20 as it is not compatible with MRV.

Not to hijack the thread, but I did that. I have 2 HR20's and and a HR23 (and 2 H23's)..

Put a new 3D TV where the HR20 was.. called in to swap.. told me since I had a 3D compatable receiver on my account, that the policy is NOT to swap the receiver as I have a 3D compatable one on my account.. I just had to move it or they would send an installer to do it for a fee.. Tried calling in three times and got the same story.. so got off the couch and had to move them around..

Wonder if they started picking up on the 3D TV 'swap' requests.. as I'm sure people just call in to 'swap' to try and get an HR24. :)

I get that, I just have a hard time trusting the system not to mess that up. As an aside, when I call to ask for a replacement HR and they ask me if I need OTA ( I have said no in the past although I can receive OTA a bit) am I supposed to get an HR20 or some HR + an AM21.

If you have an HR20 and get it replaced and state that you need it for OTA, the CSR needs to check a flag that specifies OTA is required. This will result in you getting another HR20.

The issue is not really the system messing up, but whether the CSR does things correctly. In the OTA case, the CSR needs to check the correct flag. With a 3D receiver, the CSR needs to check the correct flag. With MRV, the system already has the flag set, so no interaction is required on the part of the CSR.

I got my unit and it is a refurbed HR22 with the matte finish. (I also don't like the matte finish on these and much prefer the glossy black)

I am a little perturbed with DirecTV. I am a little bummed that they didn't send an HR24, but this unit they sent has seen better days. The back is all scratched to hell. It is especially bad on the HDMI and SATA connectors. It looks like the previous owner plugged/unplugged cables from these connectors a few hundred times and then ran cables all along the back. It is pretty bad looking. In addition, the remote doesn't work. (It doesn't much matter to me since I have Logitech Harmony remotes, but still...)How do they send things in this condition to customers?

I know that this has been discussed many times but I have issues with them sending refurbed units to people that "buy" (paying the lease fee) receivers.
I was so annoyed that I cancelled Sunday Ticket. Maybe I am being a bit whiny but with what I pay them a month I would expect something better. (Total Choice Plus, Sports Pack, International channels, Sunday ticket, 12 receivers = a BIG monthly bill)

Ok...I had to vent.

Thanks,

Dino
