Looking to switch from cable, but have some questions, and the Directv site isn't too helpful. I see I can order online at the Directv website, but I can't specify my receivers. I've played with earlier Directv receivers, and will ONLY accept an HR24 and H24. Is there anyway to guarantee I get these receivers for free?
Also, not sure on what my monthly cost will be. I want just CHOICE XTR with HD and whole home DVR service and the protection plan (Plus the additional receiver free). I want NOTHING ELSE. I also don't want auto pay, so I'd have to pay for HD, correct? What would my monthly fee be for the first 12 months? What about after that, months 12-24?
Thanks!

Buy 'em direct from a retailer.

Most new Whole Home DVR / Multi-room Video installations are getting the H/HR24s because they have DECAs built-in.

And your best DirecTV deals are done by talking to a live person.

No way to tell, because there is no way to tell what your package pricing will be for the first year, since everyone gets different "specials" to sign up.

After the first year, you would pay $65.99 for the package, $3 for Whole Home, $10 for HD, $7 for DVR and $6 for extra receiver +$5.99 for protection plan + tax.

Tivo Premier XL4, Tivo Premier, Tivo HD whole home on Xfinity HD, DirecTv Whole Home with 39" high gain KaKu dish, Roku3,SageTv 8 TB Win8 Server -> DVDO Edge-> Denon AVR, Klipsch KB15's/Panasonic 55ST60 plasma"

I've ordered my sat equipment online from Solid Signal to guarantee the model number. There is also a new (smaller) HD receiver (H25) available. It requires a SWM connection, but if you are getting Whole Home DVR, the SWM connection would be included.

As an installer for a retailer I think it is the ONLY way to make sure you get the latest mode installed. Where the local Directv home services shop or contractors for them will install what DTV sent that week, we order and get the latest models to install. Go to the local retailer and you can ask for and know you will get what you want.

Yes, within reason, you're not going to get 10 HDDVR's for free, but you can typically get an HDDVR and an HD receiver nowadays.

My mother's install was about 10 days ago. I ordered it online. She's getting the Choice Ultimate package because that or above geets free Sunday Ticket this year. I paid $287 for her to get 2 HDDVR, 1 HD Receiver, 1 SDDVR, & 1 SD Receiver. She also got Whole Home & the cinema connection kit. I knew I couldn't guarantee the receivers she would get so decided to just see what happens. She got 2 HR24's & an H25 so I was happy. She did sign up for auto-pay & so gets the HD service free. With all of the discounts, I think her bill will be about $80 a month for the first year & $95 a month the second year or something close to that. She also gets HBO, Showtime, etc free for 3 months but I didn't even tell her that -- she is not a movie watcher.

Actually Choice Xtra, the package below Ultimate, gets free Sunday Ticket this year.

Yes, most likely you will receive new receivers. You may get an H25 instead of an H24. Call the installation company ahead of the install date to double check.

The Directv website will actually calculate out months 1-12 and then 12-24 total cost for you. Keep in mind that if you don't cancel the 3 free months of HBO/SHO/STA/CIN the price will go up quite a bit for the 4 months billing cycle.

You need to enroll in autopay to get the $10/m HD credit. I have head of some people being able to get this waived. Why not enroll in autopay? Put it on a credit card that will give you points or cash back and use the 20-30 day card grace period to come up with the money plus get cash back. You could even sign up for the DirecTV credit card.

Make sure to take advantage of ALL the new customer promos. Feel free to email me directly (no PM's please) for more info. My email is in my profile.

The last time I checked the current online deal, year 1 was $30/month off, and year 2 was $15/month off. So the full price doesn't kick in until year 3.

I know people have their reasons to avoid auto-pay, but it really is a sweet deal at $10/month off. Plus if you put it on the right credit card, you could get cash back on top of that. If you have problems, you can always dispute it and have the charges removed.

Interesting...while long time established customers get to pay $99 or $199 for an additional HDDVR.

long time established customers, out of contract (as a new customer signing up would be) can usually get an additional HDDVR for free. Have you called and asked?

No. I'm simply interested in the current offerings. I just bought an HR22 from a member here for about what DirecTV would want me to pay up front for a lease and, of course, with no new commitment. Four DVRs now seems to cover all my needs. ;)
