That didn't take long! My wife and I watched the first two on DVR and found it to be somewhat entertaining and I thought they had a pretty decent story setup for at least a season. Apparently this show faced a lot of opposition from parental groups and others right from the beginning, personally I don't understand that as there was (so far) no where near as much near nudity and sexual references than almost any other show on TV in the same time slot. I guess just the mention of the word "Playboy" was probably enough to make up some people's minds.

i only watched it because of all the opposition there was telling local affiliates not to broadcast the episode. I too wondered why all the banter about the show, it was tame even boring as those 60's bunny outfits hardly showed anything at all. Should have expected it would suck because it was on the Nothing But Crap network.....

I DVRed but got bored with the first episode.

Also, I pointed out on another forum that it seemed like TV suicide to air it on Mondays opposite Monday Night Football. Seems to me the audience for this show would have been in the MNF crowd... so guaranteed to be DVRing it and watching later, i.e. not live, which means ratings nightmares.

We turned it off after the first 25 minutes of the first episode...

And we have a pretty high tollerance for shows to grow and mature.

Still surprised that it is axed after 3 episodes, and the money/time that went into promoting it.

This show was not that bad ! NBC sucks ! If you look at all of NBC ratings they are low even there shows they have kept over the years that are still on like Parenthood ! The only high rated show is Sunday night football for NBC . All of NBCS sitcoms suck and have low ratings but are still on like the office and the community to name a few . For NBC the Playboy Clubs ratings were not all that bad and might have got better . This is why NBC has crappy rating because they keep crappy shows and get rid of good ones !

The problem I see is Playboy's ratings kept going down and was putting up CW type numbers. When twice as many people are watching one of the other 2 networks (Fox & CW have gone to local programming), you have to do something.

Yeah I agree, don't they count all the people that record it and watch it later? And with DVR's and now TV's connected to the internet, can't they count those people too?

Hmmm, I actually liked this show. One of the few shows that my wife and I would watch together.

I could swear I read that they were taking DVRs into account when they did the counting. I haven't watched the show yet, probably won't now.

I used to spend some time in the Playboy Casino in Atlantic City when it first opened up. I gotta admit I was pretty disappointed by the Bunnies. Naturally, my girlfriend hated the place....

Too bad, but expected. Show was far from great, but I agree it had potential.

Advertisers are slowly starting to give some value to Live+sameday. Some have started looking at "ad view" data off of DVRs for within 3 days. Some of the networks are trying to persuade advertisers to give value to VOD. Advertisers have no interest in viewer ad-skipping-sometime-in-the-next-month viewing data for obvious reasons. (Of course, they don't care about my viewing habits at all because I'm over 50, well over....)

The production quality lacked somewhat.

The foundation had lots of possibilities but we don't need another look at the evildoings of the mafioso. I would have liked to have seen kind of an American Dreams motif about the people and entertainers who visited the club.

One other factor that may have affected Playboy Club, but Pan Am and other period pieces is the ack of oppertunity for product placement.

Good point. You are limited to products and companies that existed in the time when the period piece is set... so no modern computer product placement, for example... though you could have IBM typewriters or some other thing product-placed to still advertise that company.

It lasted a week longer than I thought it would. Pan Am should follow shortly.

I'm not so sure about "Pan Am" just yet. It's situation against "Sunday Night Football" pretty much means ABC would have to abandoned the time slot and find something else to start over with after football season. It's ratings so far aren't as bad as "The Playboy Club":

We'll see after next Sunday how the ratings look.
