Not exactly sure what you mean? I purchased the HR22 directly from DIRECTV, the HR24 from BESTBUY before they stopped selling recievers...
Is it actually owned?

Call DirecTV after you install the HR34 and tell them you need a SWIM16 upgrade should be free if you're over your number of tuners.
Just because people chose to get something outside of DIRECTV does not mean that DIRECTV is obligated to install it correctly for free. I understand that some people have stated that DIRECTV has done this for free for them but it's probably the same people who would have been eligible for a discounted upgrade of equipment normally.
