What is required for MRV? Is it just a SWM or do you have to have an ethernet connection. If it is an ethernet connection does the connection have to have internet access or could you just connect the boxes thru a common router without internet access?

You must have SWM, you do not need a CCK if you don't want it. You don't need ethernet if you go the official, support route.

1) to have it activated by DirecTV
2) to have some type of networking between the receivers
3) internet access isn't required.
4) SWiM would only be needed for using the connected home networking [aka DECA]

Sorry to be dense...so if I have this I should get MRV:

A slimline SWM dish with PI
An HR21 with a white DECA
An H21 with a white DECA
Both boxes connected to the dish with an RG6 cable.
MRV activated on the account

Would that work?

That would work, and a CCK "if you wanted" internet access too.

Yes
My comments and opinions are my own and not necessarily those of DirecTV.

3 HR24-100s owned
1 AM21 with cheap indoor multidirectional OTA
Slimline 5
WorldDirect
WHDVR with BB DECA

You don't need to have SWM to use MRV. If you don't currently have a SWM dish, then all you need is to connect your DirecTV boxes to an ethernet network and activate MRV.

Think this was posted back in post #3.

Hasn't DirecTV started to refuse to activate MRV on accounts without SWM?

If you really want MRV via unsupported mode, and you use the e-mail route worded correctly they will turn it on. I had it activated on my non-SWiM setup in the last month or so. Took all of 5 minutes ending the e-mail and it was active within a few hours.
