The First Excel attachment to this post, TPN_MAP_Domestic, covers all U.S. DIRECTV Channels and Transponders, CONUS (Continental U.S. or wide/National beams) and LIL (Local-Into-Local or narrow/Spot beams). Satellites at the 95W, 99W, 101W, 103W, 110W and 119W positions are included. Sat D1R at 72.5W is now dark and no longer shown.

Note that at the bottom of the Domestic Excel page, there are eight tabs or 'sheets':

  • CONUS TPN MAP all CONUS channels in channel number sequence

  • LIL TPN MAP all Local-Into-Local satellite channels in network number (market name) sequence

  • OTA all Over-The-Air channels in network number (market name) sequence

  • HYBRIDS all Hybrid and Offline (Inactive) channels, in channel number sequence

  • LIL MARKET LIST Local Market database and cross reference information necessary to navigate the LIL TPN Map

  • CHANNEL COUNT a count of channels provided per satellite

  • NETWORK DECODER display of the satellites and transponders graphically as it appears on your receiver's signal strength display

  • TUTORIAL a quick procedure to find your LIL transponders the very first time

A Second Excel attachment, TPN_MAP_LatinAm, covers DIRECTVLA Latin America transponders.

Note that at the bottom of the LatinAm Excel page, there are seven tabs or 'sheets':

  • BEAM OESTE all channels in Network 0 in channel number sequence

  • BEAM SUR all channels in Network 1 in channel number sequence

  • BEAM PR all channels in Network 2 in channel number sequence

  • OTA all Over-The-Air channels in network number sequence

  • HYBRIDS all Hybrid channels, in channel number sequence

  • NETWORK LIST Satellite Beam and OTA Network Numbers

  • LA NETWORK DECODER display of the satellites and transponders graphically as it appears on your receiver's signal strength display

Additional details for US Domestic channels are available regarding:

OTA (Over The Air) information and discussion in this DBSTalk thread.

DNS (Distant Network Service) information and discussion in this DBSTalk thread.

LIL (Local-Into-Local) information and discussion in this DBSTalk thread.

All documents are fully unprotected so you may copy and use the data as you wish.
.
.
The Excel 'Attached Files', below, are in the old 97-2003 XLS format.

One New HD Local Channel in *TEST:
MKT 138 NET 649 Oklahoma City, OK Ch 30 KTUZ Telemundo HD

Looking back at the TPN Map of 3/20/2009, one of our first:
We showed 801 HD Local Channels on 3/20/09, including DNS channels.
Our TPN Map today is now showing 1,412 HD Local Channels.
What a change!

I live in the Greenville NC, New Bern etc DMA (network 591). The 1/5/12 transponder map shows our LIL channels on Sat 103S, Tp 6, and it has been that way for many months. I believe that is outdated. My receiver shows no signal on that transponder, yet I have good solid video for all of our local stations.

I noticed that in test in one of the transponder maps from late December. I think it's relatively new in the data. How long it stays iin test is anyone's guess. I've been keeping an eye out for it.

KPDX first showed up in TEST mode in our 12/11/11 TPN Map. Prior to that, only the SD channel and the OTA entry were shown. You will of course not see the channel while it is in test. It has only been hung in test mode for just over three weeks now; that is not an unduly long test period. Be patient...

tomspeer,

We have done some homework and re-checking of the data. Unfortunately, everything seems to be in order; the TPN and SAT appear to be correct as the TPN Map shows it. And that is indeed at odds with your receiver's signal strength display.

Just for sanity, would you try to check with other folks in your local DMA for their signal strength readings? Perhaps receivers other than your HR24, or folks who are not using SWM?

There is a logical answer hidden in here somewhere; with your help, we will find it.

Back when my locals were added in 2010, I had a zero on the transponder listed for them as well... it continued that way until the data showed they changed transponders last year. NOW I'm getting a signal level besides 0%...

I have the same result on the H24 running on the same SWM LNB. Both running the new HDGUI. There are changes going on. 103(s) tpn 19 has now dropped from 30 to zero. It may have just fallen too low to synch up (it was 30). I will try to find another neighbor, but you have the report above from Jamieh1. Most neightbors are either happy with the cable company, or have DISH through the local phone company. The Phone company has just started bundling DTV instead of DISH very recently.

I have not checked this correlation since last spring, but at that time I had a strong signal on 103(s) tpn 6. Since then, DTV has shut down our SD locals on 72.5 and has everyone on mpeg4, as far as I know.

On closer review the NEW HD-LIL entries above are not NEW Channels but markers for ALERT banners about "LOSS" of channel due to contract disputes.
Had to review my second set of data to see the "real" entry.
Hope these alerts go away soon!!

The problem quoted above is one we have not been able to resolve. So this is a plea for some data validation - from as many folks as we can, in as many different DMA's as we can.

It just takes a few minutes:

  • In the Domestic Excel attachment, go to the "LIL TPN MAP" tab and scroll down to your home DMA. Note the SAT Display (i.e. 103S) and TPN(s) of your HD local channels. (If this is your first time using the Map, go to the "LIL MARKET LIST" tab to find your home DMA and Network Number.)
  • On your receiver, go to your Signal Strength Display for that SAT Display (example: 103S) and note the signal reading for the TPN shown as carrying your HD Locals. These should be very high readings, 90 to 100, often literally '100'.
Please just post back to let us know what you found for your HD Local TPN:

  • a valid correlation: the TPN Map and your Signal Strength Reading appear to confirm your HD Local TPN.
  • an invalid correlation; a very low reading, 0 reading or n/a reading on the TPN that the Map tells you is carrying your HD Locals.
Your time and help truly is appreciated!!

:)

Just an update - at this time it seems we have sanity and validation for all the LIL channels except for those on the Spaceway sats. The Spaceway TPNs are now getting some serious scrutiny...

The Symptoms:
On 1/5/12, tomspeer46 posted that his HD LILs were supposed to be on TPN 6 - but that TPN showed a signal strength of zero. Something is really wrong here! That triggered a whole lot of head scratching, homework and investigation. All by folks much smarter than I.

The Discovery:
We have had errors of TPN assignments for Spaceway-1 LIL channels for some period of months now. This problem affected SW-1 only. Those errors are corrected in today's 1/18/12 TPN Map update.

I'm working to assemble a logical, readable post of what is changing technically.

An Important Plea:
It was the tomspeer46 post that brought this inconsistency to the surface and triggered the research. We very much need that kind of monitoring and feedback to keep this data accurate and valuable. There are constant changes continually impacting us. Please take the time to validate the data that applies to you and then share any problems that you discover.
