Still have no idea what is the plot of this show is. I'm already not paying attention and missed the convict assignment. What was it?

If you're not paying attention, that means it's not holding your attention, I'd suggest it's not actually important to know what the plot is!

(They did cover it in the pilot episode, and reinforced it in episode 2, but reviews from the above link will help.)

it felt like a Lost episode to me

Just for the record the J. J. Abrams' production company Bad Robot is a primary player on this show and other current shows "Fringe" and "Person of Interest" and was a primary player on "Lost" and a bunch of others over the past decade. Abrams has writer credits for most of the episodes of "Lost", but though he is an executive producer doesn't have writing credits on this show.

Show creator/writer Elizabeth Sarnoff was involved in "Lost". Co-creators/writers Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt were involved in "Kyle XY".
