You needed a third option for those of us that don't care which music stations they have because we never listen to them or are indifferent because we like them both the same.

My vote is that they get rid of the music stations all together.

The XM Decades channels were great. If is was released during that decade, you heard it regardless of genre. When it became Sirius XM, the Decades channels changed to Top 40 channels. I can listed comercial radio if I want top 40 oldies.

The HR Pandora app renders the music channels obsolete.

the problem with Sonic Tap's Smooth Jazz channel is that they play too many unknown artists that I never heard of.

I feel just the opposite. I like the channels that play artists I haven't heard of. I get tired of hearing the same old stuff over and over, and if I want that I can tune into a local terrestrial station. I prefer the variety on the SonicTap channels.

But remember that not all D* subscribers can get Pandora. Many don't have the right equipment and I doubt if they will upgrade just to get Pandora. My parents have SD receivers and say that they are perfectly happy with it and have no plans to upgrade. There are a lot of people like that.

Can you? Do you? You sound like a perfect candidate for what Pandora offers.

And, of course, it's also available on computers, iPhones, iPads, and probably all sorts of droids and others.....

I have XM I the car and don't want it at home, happy with SonicTap since I hate the DJ's babble.

Yes....

XM was BETTER than SonicTap but SONIC TAP IS BETTER THAN the new "Sirius/XM" by a long shot! (But music choice is better than all of them)

Since Pandora arrived I haven't tuned into the music channels once. The sound quality is better and I can skip songs I don't like.

Yes, I realize that there are a lot of folks that don't have the HDDVR's and can't use Pandora but there will be even less demand for better music channels.

All the rock channels on Sirius (there IS no XM any longer) sound exactly the same. It's become a waste of bandwidth.

SiriusXM still (there's a handful of channels that are unique to each service; I'm still waiting for a full merger of channels so I can get CBC 3 and CBC Radio One in the car) exists...
Wish list of channels for D*: C-Span 3; BBC World News; Sky News International; CBC Newsworld; France24; EuroNews; Eurosportnews; Setanta Sports News; ABC News 24 (Australia); Australia Network (soon to be ABC Asia Pacific); Al Jazeera English; Russia Today; NHK World; DW-TV -- Heck, how about an entire English-language international tier so I don't have to keep switching to my Roku?

On what channels?

A number of their channels are supposed to be songs that aren't hits -- one example is the channel I listen to most, College Rock (831).

On just about every. Listen to something other then college rock for 10 minutes.

80,s 90,s so much crap that never even made it to radio.

The problem isn't Sonic Tap but DirecTV which is streaming the music at a very low bps rate. It sounds like 96 bps at the most.

I don't think there would be much of a gain in bandwidth by getting rid of them though, and they aren't on satellites that provide HD content as far as I know.

Okay, I took the damondlt challenge and listened to '80s Hits (805). I even did more than 10 minutes -- actually, about 25-30 minutes. Here's what I heard:

Bobby Brown, "Every Little Step"
George Michael, "Faith"
Golden Earring, "Twilight Zone"
Richard Marx, "Should've Known Better"
Klymaxx, "I Miss You"
Breathe, "Hands to Heaven"
Dead or Alive, "You Spin Me 'Round (Like a Record)"
Michael Jackson, "Man in the Mirror"

Now, it's a matter of personal taste whether any of those songs count as "crap," but they're definitely all hits that were played on the radio in the 1980s. Some of them incessantly, as I recall.

Not sure how to vote, with DirecTV now offering access to Pandora I would have no objection to them getting rid of music channels all together.
