I noticed an advertisement for free preview channels that come in periodically and was curious as to whether an older receiver that was not currently subscribed would be able to get these. I have a couple of older receivers and the old dish is still setup at my new place.

Free Preview does not mean unauthorized accounts. So, no, an inactive receiver cannot receive the "free preview" events.
