The demand is obviously high. Yes, soccer is big among Hispanics, that's a fact. Other races, not so much. The opposite could be said about basketball. I hope we get both TWC channels. With the Lakers as the main bargaining chip for the English version and soccer for the Spanish one, you probably will; but I don't think the Sparks will come into play though. I'm just saying there's other factors involved though, mainly money.
True. But I also think DIRECTV may want to hedge its bets. I'm guessing they will be able to pick this channel up cheaper now than latter if they get the Dodgers too, which will also have a huge Spanish following. And the Lakers are actually very well followed by Spanish. They have a dedicated Spanish announcers team thats been the same for a long time working for many many years. Kind of how chick was there forever. Lakers are very big in the Spanish community. Much bigger than most people realize, including me for a long time.
You are right, sparks may not mean much, but a few million is still a few million dollars every year, that hey got out of their new contract.
This is one of the few times where I think both sides can win if they all play their cards right. Very unusual in the RSN game.
Also, imagine if the Dodgers do defect. You almost have to wonder if prime ticket may become a part time Spanish channel for Angels games, if twc is very successful. There are lots of possibilities and repercussions from this experiment.
