I noticed the last threads on this topic are 3 - 4 years old now. I have an HR20 that the OTA tuner has died and wondered with the new software upgrades to the HR20 will it support the AM21N?

Not that I've heard. You should be able to get a replacement HR20. When you call in to advise them of the issue, let them know that it is an HR20 and that you use it for OTA. There is a flag that the CSR is supposed to check so that the warehouse will ship out a HR20 to you.

Today's problems don't worry me, I haven't solved yesterday's yet.

You cannot use the AM21 with the HR20. If you need OTA you will need a replacement box.
Opinions expressed by me are my own and do not necessarily reflect
those of DBSTalk.com, DIRECTV, DISH, The Signal Group, or any other company.

I would be a little suspicious that BOTH tuners failed at the same time. One maybe, but not both, I would look for some other possible problem.

There's only one OTA tuner, it's split inside the HR20.

Understood, but my father had just one(or one half of it) fail.

There are two OTA tuners. The feed from the antenna is split to drive the two tuners.
