Why do HR21's suck

Why can't they fix these things. It take 30 sec. to delete a recording. It take I don;t know how long to bring up the guide. I call and all they want to do is extend my contract.

I don't want pandora, youtube or any internet crap. I want a DVR that works.

Directv is a TV service, I want TV and I want hardware that is made to watch TV. If I want music service I waill pay for a service that provides it. If I want an internet service I will pay for that.

I got Direct TV for TV why can't they give me that???

I do not how long you have been with "Da wreckTV" but what really is bad is,
if you buy a TV at Best buy you do not have to sign a contract for two
years and be stuck with the TV if it does not work correctly you can take it back. You can try it out first.

This stuff is bordering on Fraud.
What is considered Unacceptable performance ? So you can cancel the contract.

I guess this explains why Best Buy is going bye, bye. D* is viable and profitable (ranked number 2). Best Buy is neither.

What is unacceptable performance? If you read the various satellite or cable equipment reviews, you will find there are no flawless equipment. They all have complaints of one kind or another. In my opinion, the Hughes HR10-250 was far better than the HR24s I have now. I have seen the grass on the other side, and it ain't always greener.

In criminal law, a fraud is an intentional deception made for personal gain or to damage another individual. I do not think D* is boarding on either category. But one can always go to court. My guess it will cost more to adjudicate the perceived unjustice than to pay the early termination fee.

There are many media delivery services to which the OP or you can move. All require contracts of some kind, as well as, early termination fees. In some cases, the other media provider will payoff D*'s early termination fee to get a new contract. So if your unhappy and you do show it, please leave D*. Don't let an early termination fee stop you. Your health is more important than a few bucks.

A key component of the DirecTV business model is locking in customers to a two year commitment. The fact is that DirecTV benefits from deteriorating performance with older DVR's. The only "solution" for the customer is to "upgrade" and get locked in for another two years. Round and round we go. Coincidence? Actively caused? Passively allowed? Why should DirecTV management care about the performance of an HR21? Think about it.

I solved my problems by getting rid of my HR20s & HR21s by getting HR24-500s which are Fast and have No Problems.

The Older HRs do not have a Fast CPU nor the RAM that the HR24-500 has therefore they are bogged down by adding all of the New Features and Functionality.

Directv should Allow any Customer who is dissatisfied with their HR20 or HR21 or HR23 the Ability to Excahnge them for an HR24 even if they have to pay a small fee.

It would be Great Customer Service and Directv would Benefit in the long run.

Could not have said this better myself. I've had my HR20-100 for almost 5 years and they can't guarantee me a HR24? Ridiculous! I don't mind starting another two year commitment but at least send a newer DVR. I have a free upgrade for an HD-DVR but don't feel like paying $400 to guarantee a HR34. :(

Why quote criminal law when this would fall under civil law? Clearly, sending someone a non-working HR to replace a failed HR is a breach of contract. And if one were to take D* to court over this, it would be a civil case.

They can and will guarantee you a 24 if you push them hard enough. Just make sure you have an installer or tech (you should get so lucky) deliver it.

As of this moment if someone knocked on my door and said, "Here's your brand new HR34, free of charge", I wouldn't take it. Perhaps in a year or two, I'd take a shot at one.

Richierich and I have the same feelings about the 34s and we can afford to replace all or some of our HRs with 34s, but we don't have one. Make of that what you will. Believe me, it's a choice we've both considered and chosen not to take.

I think you are nitpicking. In criminal or civil law fraud is defined the same way, refer to the following:

I would think if D* was acting fraudulently in regard to the HR21; there would have been a class-action lawsuit filed by now in California which is the home of the class-action. There is nothing to prevent the OP from filing a small claims lawsuit in Maryland for up to $5000. I do think this would be throwing good money away. A better course of action would be to write a letter to D's CEO outlining the problems with the HR21, and what D* could do to make the OP happy.

Rich, I think you missed my point entirely. In this case, there is a remedy: if you don't like D*'s services or equipment, then move to another provider rather than be unhappy. Yes, there is a cost associated with such a remedy which is the early termination fee. I would suggest not entering into a contract if you don't like the terms or conditions. No one forced the OP to agree to D*'s contract. There are multiple media providers in most U.S. markets, so you have a choice.

Funny thing, one of my favorite DVR models was the HR21-700. My first choice was the Hughes HR10-250. I guess different strokes for different folks.
What really amazes me is so many DBSTALK members are angry with D*'s services or equipment, and they stay in an unhappy relationship. I say get over it or move on!
