Whatever they offer, get it in writing. Have them send you an e-mail with the offer because they will deny everything if they so desire.

I finagled a great deal last year, so am willing to pay the going rate this year. $199 seems like a reasonable price for the product. I could possibly work to obtain a better price or a pittance of a discount, but it doesn't seem worthwhile to me. They said $199 for the basic package was the best price they would ever offer. If I find later that the policy changed, I'll pursue a better deal then.

I can complete understand the added cost for the max. Remember everything in the $199 package is beamed down to your receiver by default you just pay to enable it. The additional features are all pieces that DirecTV has additional costs for. They produce the RZC and have to have the internet bandwidth to support the to go streaming. Even the player tracker (although poorly developed) is also a cost to produce.

I will have to decide if RZC is worth $100 for me as it's the only feature that I really use but truthfully I really like this model.
My Setup
Main DVR HR21-100
Wired Connection
HDMI to Toshiba Regza 47in LCD

Bedroom DVR HR22-700
Wired Connection
Component cables to Westinghouse 27in LCD

My view is fewer games on the Sunday due to Sunday night football on CBS and Thursday night on the NFL network equal lower demand is the cause of the new pricing scheme.

-Sunday nite football is on NBC not CBS.
-There are the same # of sunday nite games this year compared to last year.

The only games missing from the Sunday Ticket package this year are the 7 Thursday night games in September and October (I'm not counting opening night which is on NBC). All of the other Thursday/Sunday/Monday night games were played in prime-time last year as well.

Its actually only a 6 game loss.

NBC has 19 games in 2012 compared to 18 in 2011 = +1.
NFLN has 13 games in 2012 compared to 8 in 2011 = +5.

Yes. However, I tend to agree with EdL. With the increased number of games available, without Sunday Ticket, that have become available over the past few years, Sunday Ticket is not as valuable to fans who have historically bought it to ensure that they don't miss the "big" games. That's the reason that I've always had it.

Living in the NY TV market, I've always been "stuck" with Jets & Giants games, and usually miss out on double headers on either network. It used to be that, at the end of the season, there would be a few top-notch games that were available nationwide, but unavailable in NY due to blackout rules. Sunday Ticket eliminated that problem.

With Sunday night, Thursday night and Saturday (at the end of the season) games now taking place, we rarely have to miss the "big" games at the end of the season. Last year, without Sunday Ticket, the only "premiere" game that people in NY couldn't see was New England vs Denver in Week 15.

Friends of mine have canceled Sunday Ticket with the excuse "why spend $300 when the vast majority of the games that I want to watch are already available?" That's hard to argue with. At $200, it becomes more palatable to people who are on the fence.

I was just talking about SNF specifically since he mentioned it.

ST is different things to different people as some like the variety of games for example....

Week 1 there are 9 games @ 1:00 yet NY only gets 1....then 1 game @ 4:15.

Week 2 the same there are 9 games @ 1:00 yet NY only gets 1....then 1 game @ 4:15.

So for the 1st 2 weeks there is only 1 game during both timeslots with no alternative to switch to.

+ its not really fair to say $300 since as tons of posts here showed alot of people got $120 discount or more or even got it free last year.

You can get RedZone from Comcast for $8 a month and it also includes Fox Soccer in that package. Figuring 5 months tops, that is $40 for RedZone on Comcast. The To Go package is nice but if I had any other choice to watch a game from my Phone, I certainly would. I have serious concerns about this extra $100. Just considering my options at this point.

They will start billing before the season starts. At some point, I have to make a decision but there is not enough value in the extra $100, but RedZone is a great channel. Helps me to decide which games to watch when Rams are down big (often lately) or not playing. They are forcing you to pay for the Mobile App to get RedZone. The competition is MUCH cheaper. If we all let them know that, they will either cave or give in to complainers. Hate that it works that way, but it does.

IMO they should offer the package this way:

$50 RedZoneChannel Only Package (doesn't require an NFLST subscription)
$199 NFL Sunday Ticket Only Package (includes all games in HD)
$225 NFL Sunday Ticket + RedZoneChannel (for those that don't require the Mobile App)
$275 NFL Sunday Ticket Max Package (RedZoneChannel + Mobile App)

We'll see what happens but I'm hoping to get the RZC for free again this season as I have the past 2 seasons. I stay out of contract for this reason. Funny thing is I'd gladly pay $50-100 per season just for RZC but to require me to buy NFL ST, I'll cancel and go to Comcrap and downgrade and suffer through NFL Red Zone before paying $300 since I see every 49ers game without NFL ST.

DirecTV Subscriber Since 11/2008
Choice Ultimate - HD Extra - RZC
(2) HR22-100
(1) HR22-100 (Owned)
(1) HR21-100 (Owned)
