What happens if I call Directv's retention dept. and try to get the a deal on Sunday Ticket but am unsuccessful? Will they start cancellation of my service?

No. Only if you really want to cancel/specifically ask them to cancel will they cancel.

No it hasn't. They cancel your service when you specifically ask them to, not when you threaten to do so.

Sunday Ticket Max + HR34 + Free Install = $100, $10/mo credit for HD for 12 months.

Well worth the call.

Hmm...I got Free NFL ST when I called a few months ago (no commitment either). I was going to call and ask for Max upgrade, but honestly I didn't watch the RZ that much last year nor would I watch on my iPad/phone/PC. Honestly, the included game mix channel is more interesting to me than the RZ channel.

Even for free, not worth the effort to me. Would rather hit them up for other "freebies" after my current crop runs out (free SHO, free MAX, HD credits, etc.).

Called in and asked to know what my ETF was, since my cableco offers to buy it out if you switch. Was transferred to retention and they asked why I was interested in switching. Told them I was tired of being a seven-year sub and always having to jettison programming to save money, while newbies get a huge goodie bag for signing up, although they haven't paid a dime yet.

Oh, yeah, I got offers: ST for free, but with a 1-year contract extension; whole-home for $99, with a 2-year extension; Media Center for $199, with a 2-year extension. Always a contract extension, as if they have so little faith in the value of their service that they have to shackle you to it.

Why do I stay? Because here in the technological urban armpit of America, our other two alternatives are worse: Mediacom or DISH.

Of course it comes with an extension. That's a huge credit to give you ST for free. They shouldn't give it to you without a commitment to tether you for at least 12 months.

09/08/2012 XXXXXXXXXXX NFL SUNDAY TICKET 2012 HD - Charge $0.00 $0.00
09/08/2012 XXXXXXXXXXX NFL SUNDAY TICKET MAX 2012 - Charge $0.00 $0.00
09/08/2012 XXXXXXXXXXX PREMIER - $15/12moBasePkg ($15.00) ($0.75)
09/08/2012 XXXXXXXXXXX Advanced Receiver-HD - 12moFreeHDExist ($10.00) ($0.50)
09/08/2012 XXXXXXXXXXX PREMIER - 1/2 offSTZfor12Mos ($6.50) ($0.33)
09/08/2012 XXXXXXXXXXX NFL SUNDAY TICKET 2012 - Charge $0.00 $0.00

Needless to say, I stayed. Thanks to all for the shared information, and good luck to everyone this season (except Ravens fans, of course...).

I called to have the Max taken off of my Sunday Ticket tonight. The CSR told me she thought I would miss the features if she took them off, so she gave me Max for free. Works for me I guess.

I did a search and took all OF THE ADVICE HERE AND WELL THINGS TURNED OUT QUITE WELL.....NOW I HAD ALREADY PURCHASED SUNDAY TICKET @ $199 3 WEEKS AGO. I spent 32 minutes on phone and I literally got nowhere...NOWHERE!! I finally stated "I still can cancel Sunday ticket before the 1st game tomorrow right?" THE TIDES started changing right then.....The guy gave me the FOLLOWING:1.) RED ZONE CHANNEL FOR FREE AS THAT IS ALL I WANTED!! 2.)HE THEN knocked $5 off sports package for 12 months....3.) Showtime free for a year....4.) and the stunner was $10 off each for the HD ACCESS & $15 loyal customer discount for next 12 months (HAD DTV since 1995)....Thats's $515.88 in savings not counting whatever typical COST FOR RED ZONE CHANNEL IS......HE REMINDED ME THAT I WAS GETTING ONLY SUNDAY TICKET...NO SHORT CUTS,MOBILE ACCESS,ETC.....AS YOU GET WITH "MAX". I'd like to hear what you fellow members think.....I feel like I got a pretty good deal....it's odd because I wouldn't have given a 10% chance that I WAS GETTING ANYTHING IN FIRST 32minutes....maybe the secret is wear down. ALSO, I DID STATE ONE THING THAT HAD A PROFOUND IMPACT ON EVERYTHING....i told the CSR...."JUST DO ME THE BEST YOU CAN AND I TRUST YOU...ONCE EVERYTHING IS DONE....I KNOW THAT MORE THAN LIKELY I'LL STILL BE CALLING IN AND CANCELLING TOMORROW." SO GLAD BLUFF WASN'T CALLED!!!

When I called for my ST, I skipped over the front line CSRs as I have done the last number of years. As we are all suppose to do. The front liners can't do much at all for you. Their hands are pretty much tied to their script they have to use.

I always go straight to Retention. I ask for them outright. This year, I decided to go straight for the jugular. When the Rention CSR came on the line, She asked what she could do to help me today. I said "I Want Sunday Ticket for Free this year, like I have seen many others, and new customers have been given" I also joked around with her, talked about all kinds of things too. After getting ST for Free, I asked if there wear any programing credits that would be available to a good customer such as me. She loaded me down with a bunch of them. I was so giddy about getting all of that, I had forgoten to check my account, as it was a busy day away from the house.

So comes the next morning, I look and see on my account, I didn't have ST MAX . SO I called back again. Explained to the new Retention CSR that they other Csr made a mistake, and forgot to give me Max for Free too. So he gave it to me in seconds, and also added another credit to my account.

That makes this years CSR Roulett they best ever. I am a Very HAPPY DTV Customer this year. :D

The biggest key is just being nice !! And Asking for everything possible in the nicest way possible.
I also always point out what a Loyal and Good DTV Customer I am too

My first bill since getting Sunday Ticket Max for free, went from $97 to $145..

What?!?! I didn't call anyone, I went through my bill extensively. It seems, along with Premiums Free, if you get it mid billing cycle, that adjustment (prorated) is not free. On top of that, they didn't charge me the full bill last month, but was short by $37. WTH! So they discovered the discrepancy and now I have a huge bill this month.

Next month should be fine, but I just don't know about these mid billing cycle policies.

Anyone else get charged for prorated premiums, when they were supposed to be free?

I'm assuming you took a 3 month offer so if you disconnect it 90 days after the activation date you'll get a credit the same amount of the prorated charge so you'll get it on the back end. However if you add something mid month you'll get billed a prorated amount.

Yes, and what it takes is time without discounts....paying your full monthly bill.....and then you will be eligible again.

Also having a "lot of refer" a friends..i have had about 16 within 3 years and was able to get an HR34 for $108 free ticket and redzone with free hd and 24 month credits. I have also restatred my contract about 3 times this year just to get additional stuff.
The most i have paid previously for the ticket was about $150.
