This just in:

So what happens if Game 4 of the Rangers and Capitals series beginning at 12:30 p.m. EST tomorrow goes into multiple overtimes?

Viewers will be able to catch the entire first overtime on NBC. A second overtime will air on NBC "depending upon timing and circumstances," according to the network. Once NBC switches to pre-race coverage, NBC Sports Network will carry the remainder of the game.

No decision has been made if the same will occur in two weeks on May 19 when NBC will begin its Preakness Stakes coverage beginning at 4:30 p.m. EST. That weekend will feature the NHL conference finals, which typically has at least one afternoon game scheduled.

UPDATE: NBC has announced they will now have coverage through two overtimes on NBC, no matter what. If the game goes into a third overtime, it will switch to CNBC for the entire country, except for the New York and Washington markets, which will continue to have the game on NBC.

First NBC Sports Network and then CNBC. You get the feeling they don't do a lot of planning at NBC?

now will they mess up the 2012 olympics??

Some ad's make it seem like only on the NBCSN and NBC.

the added channels from 2008 should come back.

I read that not only NBC, NBC Sports, but Telemundo, MSNBC and USA Network plus everything is supposed to be streamed live.

But I'm sure they will delay some of the bigger events to prime time and also block those events from their streaming site.

The 4-5 hour of NBC's Derby coverage is pure fluff - fashion coverage and such. My guess is that if the hockey game went OT and beyond, they'd keep it on NBC nationally until 5, then probably shift it to CNBC (except for local markets) after that.

Don't bet too much on that. A few years ago, they cut away from a Red Wings playoff game for the Kentucky Derby. The thought that they would cut away from ANY game before it is over is unprofessionalism period. Nevertheless, they do leave a hockey game for the Kentucky Fashion Show without a moment's regret.

Go Caps!!!

Networks are dense. They will cut off a playoff game before the end, but heaven forbid they move away from a 30 point NFL game where a team is kneeling the ball in the last 2 minutes to get you to the 4pm kickoffs in time. No, in that case, not only do we see 2 minutes of no action, we then see another minute of players walking around the field after the game, an interview with boring questions, and 4 minutes of commercials. We might get to join the next game midway through the first quarter.

I understand they have horse racing contracts, but if you want to carry the NHL playoffs, you have to accept what comes with it, and one of the big caveats is that games might end up going 5 or more hours. They should never, ever, ever cut away from a major sport's playoff game for pregame coverage of anything. Ever. If they have a contract with the Triple Crown that requires this, then they should not carry hockey that day.

Oh, and CAPS! CAPS! CAPS!!! :D

Oh, you mean the one I already referenced (and it was the Preakness, not Derby).

Preakness, Derby, who cares?!? It was a bunch of animals running in a circle! Who can tell the difference? The hours of fashion show and chatting was all the same in either case.
