Just wondering, is this the way new DirecTV accounts are being set up? Or are new installs still using legacy multiswitches?

All new installs will get SWM as long as you order HD or in a MPEG4 market.

Are installs free? Does DirecTV provide the dishes, multiswitches, splitters, etc for free?

Free installs for new subscribers? --- Mostly yes included as part of signup deals.

For current subscribers? ---- Sometimes yes as part of different upgrade deals. It all depends on what representative you talk to, length of service, payment history, etc. YMMV.

And yes DIRECTV provides all equipment necessary for it considers a "standard" installation. Beyond this though it falls into the area of a "custom" install and may require additional charges and/or special ordering.

Yes...those are all the correct answers.
