DirecTV launches new digital division

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Satellite entertainment provider DirecTV Inc. has created a new digital division to help it sell more shows and other content over the Internet, and on mobile devices including tablet computers.

The new division will be led by Tony Goncalves, who joined DirecTV in 2007 and has held positions in sales and product management. Goncalves helped secure DirecTV’s partnerships with AT&T and CenturyLink.

... and from the investors site.

Tony Goncalves Named Senior Vice President of Digital Entertainment Products

EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- DIRECTV has created a new Digital Entertainment Products organization to further advance its digital strategy, maintain its competitive advantage and continue to improve the entertainment experience for its customers. Tony Goncalves will lead the organization and assume the new title of senior vice president of Digital Entertainment Products, reporting to Mike White, chairman, president and CEO of DIRECTV.

The Digital Entertainment Products team responsibilities will include strategy, ideation and product definition for entertainment initiatives across all mobile, tablet, Web, native apps, third-party devices and video on-demand platforms.

Looks like DIRECTV is taking Internet-delivered content seriously. It will be interesting to see where this goes.

If it results in more content on more devices, then I consider it "a good thing".

Lets hope it does not result in further dilution of what is supposed to be HDTV, goes for Direct and Dish. ron
