I would be curious to know what bitrate and whether or not they are using the new encoders for the Audience Network. The picture quality is quite bad on tonight's Damages premiere. Lots of artifacting.

They film it crappy... It's been horrible since FX days.
If you stop responding to them or put them on ignore, then eventually they'll go away.

Post sat, tpn, PID and time if you want the numbers or a plot.

Thanks, and I knew you'd done it before.
So now we have "facts". :)

So now that we know the BW is 36 MHz, if this is only getting 38 Mb/s, it must be using the worst modulation technique known to man.

I'm by no means an expert on types of modulation but if it's only 1 Mb/s/MHz this sounds basically primitive analog, which we know it isn't.

Measured data rates:
for Ka, DVB-S2D, SR=30 Msps:
QPSK 3/5 35 Mbps
QPSK 2/3 39 Mbps
QPSK 4/5 47 Mbps
8PSK 3/5 52 Mbps

I'm not just talking about that "soft" filter look they have throughout the show, there seems to be artifacting due to what looks to me like bitrate starvation.

Post sat, tpn, PID and time if you want the numbers or a plot.

I am not sure how to find the PID of a channel, can that be done via a serial command (using the HTTP API)?

EDIT: While I'm still curious whether that information can be determined via serial, I pulled the following information from the 7/4 excel spreadsheet here:

D10 @ 103W (103CB)
TPN: 1
TID: 124
VPID: 1050

EDIT 2: I got the following hex response for the FA83 serial command, I'm not sure how to parse this in order to get useful information:
0065FFFF1009FF10501052FFFF000F7C13070C01351604000000000000000000<removed sensitive info>

I'll post the plot when the 1 hr ends. Check above my decoding of your hex response.

Thanks for that, very helpful info. Would you mind removing my RID from the quote and that post, though? I may just be paranoid but nevertheless...

EDIT: and the Card ID too?

EDIT 2: Thanks.

sixto, when do you think we'll see the Disney Jr. movements? The press release didn't say anything about HD or not, so I'm curious to see whether it is coming in SD only.

Little ones loves watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, so she'll be a happy camper!

Nice plot. Just a rough estimate I don't calculate those bitrates to ever exceed 36mbps.

Surely it would of been in test by now right? I don't think its going to be in HD.

My local cable provider has Disney Jr. in SD and HD both since it came out. I would think that the solid colors in cartoon material, also with ABC/Disney's usual 720p HD resolution should make this a good candidate for a 6 channel multiplex.

My apologies, I re-read the thread and it is HD channel mapping, so I guess you don't monitor SD channel movement, fair statement?

Perhaps "A3' or "Advanced" channels would be more clear ? :)
Or MPEG-4/H.264 ? But the designator would cover 480p (new SD) 720p and 1080i (HD) on DVB-S2D transponders (mostly Ka sats).

The rejiggering of channels onto new transponders this morning was annoying. CNBC and MSNBC were both offline from 6:00am til about 6:30 EST. I wish they'd do these things in the middle of the night, rather than first thing in the morning if it's going to cause that much disruption.

I'm still wondering what it is about. They are all the channels that will be used for the Olympics by NBC (Except CIHD I think), so I was thinking it might have something to do with re-arranging the channels or putting in duplicate channel numbers in the 75x's, but that hasn't happened yet. Not sure why moving those channels was needed.
[Disclaimer] The definition of "soon" is based solely on DirecTV's interpretation of the word, and all similarities with dictionary definitions of the word "soon" are purely coincidental and should not be interpreted as a time frame that will come to pass within a reasonable amount of time.

I am the Stig.

Maybe it is coincidence. Or maybe they are working on setting up the 700s and they are in the same database so they just do them at the same time.

Hmmm. You just reminded me, I do remember this happening previously, maybe for the Olympics previously..
