Please use this thread to discuss your feelings about upcoming national HD channels.

This thread will not be as tightly moderated as the rest of the site, but here's the tradeoff...in exchange for being able to rant a bit more, you can be assured that absolutely no one at DIRECTV will be using this thread for reference.

You can ask for all the new HD you want, but DIRECTV's marketing department knows that the 100-150 contributors to this thread are only a small part of the nearly 20,000,000 total subscribers.

*Please remember that all forum rules are still in effect.
*Please do not "bump" this thread.
*Other threads that do nothing but anticipate HD channels for which there is no information will be closed.
*This is not a DIRECTV vs. Dish thread, there are other threads for that.

Since it costs 2.4¢ to produce a penny, my 2¢ worth is really 4.8¢ worth.  That 4.8¢ is my own and not the 4.8¢ of DIRECTV, Dish, or anyone else for that matter.

Things change... :(

Three quarters prior, I had a bunch of channels I was hoping for... and while I still hope for many of them (I no longer really care about the Encore channels since I no longer subscribe to Total Choice Ultimate), their importance is considerably less.

The only ones I TRULY still hope are coming this year are CW HD-DNS, BBCA-HD, and TV Land HD.

As a father of a 4 yr old I would like to see Disney Jr. (I know I would be asking for trouble).
BBC-HD would be nice also

I'm not certain about capacity.

If we are able to get at least ten HDs prior to the 2014 launch of D14, my guess as to what those would be are as follows:

Up to 10…
6-- Pac-12 Network HD (seven screens)
6-- Comcast SportsNet Houston HD
6-- Time Warner Cable SportsNet HD
6-- Time Warner Cable Deportes HD

Up to 20…
204 Headline News HD
235 Style Network HD
253 Lifetime Movie Network HD
256 Turner Classic Movies HD
264 BBC America HD
271 H2 HD
29- Disney Junior HD
304 TV Land HD

5-- IndiePlex HD
5-- RetroPlex HD

Yeah... the RSN section is a mess... thanks to some posters, I was able to update it slightly last quarter (I think?), but I was confused by some of the part-time/full-time statuses, and I wanted to look it up, but time and other things came up in my life that took a priority.

I'll add Fox Sports SD (South Dakota?) in a little bit.

If anybody else wants to help me, simply list the channels and clarify PLAINLY whether or not DirecTV carries the channel in SD, part-time HD, or not at all.

Turner Classic Movies, TV Land, and more sports sounds pretty good to me. Of course, I welcome any addition to our HD lineup. Here's to a more productive third quarter for HD for Directv!

Any HD would be welcome - except BBCA. ;)
If you stop responding to them or put them on ignore, then eventually they'll go away.

Here we go again. :bang

I don't know about you guys, but if D* doesn't add any new basic HD this quarter, I'll be forced to come on here to complain then threaten to switch to E*.

Coca Cola Kid,

Who wrote this @ http://www.dbstalk.c...475#post2806475 @ posting #3948 … ?

My issue is people like you who always say "the competition has the HD channels I want and D* doesn't" but refuse to switch. Just doesn't make any sense.

True.

When I first joined DBSTalk.com in September 2010, I gave the powers that be at DirecTV more credit than they deserve.

After that point, the only basic-cable channels that came in high def were AMC HD, truTV HD, and E! Entertainment Television HD. Back then I thought some really simple stuff, no problem getting carried by competition, would have been delivered by DirecTV.

22 months later, still no Headline News HD and/or Turner Classic Movies HD. (Must be too difficult to get!) Still no H2 HD and/or Lifetime Movie Network HD. (Toughies!) Still no BBC America HD and/or The Hub HD and/or Investigation Discovery HD and/or Oprah Winfrey Network HD. (Damn those at Discovery Communications!) Still no Cooking Channel HD and/or DIY Network HD. (Oh, those ruthless, unscrupulous monsters at Scripps!) And, finally, there is GSN HD. (The ultimate enigma!)

I anticipate that 2014, with the launching of D14, will be the period that matters. By then the powers that be at DirecTV can offer no more excuses if they fail to deliver on basic-cable programming in HD.

You watch LMN and OWN? Umm are you female?

Has to do with distribution and/or ownership.

Weirdest part about GSN is that D* owns 60% but Sony has the controlling interest. :scratchin

Numerous members noted that last year after GSN HD was added by several competitors which included rival Dish Network.

:beatdeadhorse:

Yup here we go again with yet another new thread talking about the same things we've been talking about the past two to three years. D* knows want we want, we know what we want, but there's nothing we can do until they add them.

Weirdest part about GSN is that D* owns 60% but Sony has the controlling interest. :scratchin

Crazy isn't it?

I watch LMN from time to time, and I'm male. :)

I like Oprah, but I don't care for reality shows, so I have zero interest in OWN. I'm sure they'll be a special on one of these years that will interest me, but I'd rather see other channels get a priority over it.

I said this yesterday, we're not beating a dead horse (a particular request or line of conversation is already foreclosed, mooted, or otherwise resolved, and any attempt to continue it is futile), we're banging our heads against the wall (to keep asking someone to do something which they never do) like I said in my earlier post.

Oh alright. :bang ;)
