Or he may not provide us with any information at all if he is treated with so much disrespect.

Yeah like the BBCA-HD announcement we learned from Charles from D*'s FB page, not him...He only chimed in and agreed with it afterwards.

He (SR) mentioned why he left this site for a while. I've never sent him any private messages to insult or pick on him...a sarcastic PUBLIC snide is all he's ever gotten from me..so in that I say Man up and deal with it.

Private messages to him (if they emanate from DBS msg system) to de-moralize or other forms of disrespect are tasteless and deserve whatever the mods here see fit to do so.

Gee, I thought it was clear it was "Strike Up the Band" for his previously favored band icon to announce imminent HD launches. . . and I thought that before we knew for sure something was launching (nor was I alone in that thinking).

I'm only going by Carl Spock's reply a page ago that it wasn't defined as to what it meant.

H2-HD news? rumors?, or hints?

How well do you know your states?!

I disagree with Carl on this... I think it was most likely defined.

There's not really much to say. If we want industry insiders (such as Satelliteracer) to take part in this forum, then they need to be treated with respect. It's a valuable resource and shouldn't be taken for granted.

Well so far all that IonE has put up is SD. DYI on the other hand has some nice looking HD shows.

Everything on ION is 720p, but that is a far cry better than 480i, especially when the 480i is over compresed as it is on the DirecTV SD version, and it is no different from what ABC and ESPN broadcast.

Much of the programming, though, is probably upconverted SD; however, they do show reruns of shows that were originally 1080i (e.g., Leverage). I did not watch Leverage on ION last night, but I expect that it was HD.

Everything but infomercials have been in HD on IONEHD every time I've tuned to the channel.

DIY will stretch upconverted SD programming though, so I've seen some of that... It's great when it is HD though...

Not sure if I should post this here because it may start a new round of PAC 12 conversation. Mods, move it as you think or ask me to start a thread or whatever.

Jim Carlisle (Ventura County Star) tweeted:

"DirecTV says it offered to carry Pac-12 Networks as a stand-alone channel for customers to take a la carte or to carry games on demand. The on-demand proposal was to be in place 'until we get this worked out.' Pac-12, however, rejected both ideas 'without any consideration.'"

I thought some of these content owners required you to carry these networks together. Hence the whole "a la cart won't work" argument.

Yes, but that doesn't apply to HD or SD. You don't have to carry all in HD, you just have to carry them all.

Some cable networks don't have much space beyond about 75 HD in total, and they sure as hell aren't going to carry 20 Viacom channels all in HD.
[Disclaimer] The definition of "soon" is based solely on DirecTV's interpretation of the word, and all similarities with dictionary definitions of the word "soon" are purely coincidental and should not be interpreted as a time frame that will come to pass within a reasonable amount of time.

I am the Stig.

I think you are mixing things up a bit.

The a la carte is because they insist on their channels being in bundled packages. There is some mix and match on what a system carries, but if they carry it, they want it in the most basic package possible to ensure lots and lots of potential eyeballs (plus more money at lower per unit rates overall).

Hence, a cable system may not carry style but if they do, they have to carry it in a base package.

It has nothing to do with how sensitive anyone is. Other forums have lost insiders and experts due to how they are treated at times. Just trying to avoid that...
