I think you are mixing things up a bit.

The a la carte is because they insist on their channels being in bundled packages. There is some mix and match on what a system carries, but if they carry it, they want it in the most basic package possible to ensure lots and lots of potential eyeballs (plus more money at lower per unit rates overall).

Hence, a cable system may not carry style but if they do, they have to carry it in a base package.

There's some conflating going on there between HD/SD vs "bundling" as well. We don't even know that all of these channels even charge more for providing their HD feed if you're already carrying their SD feed. Nor have I seen it suggested anywhere that it has been a sticking point in negotiations for any content vs carrier negotiation that the content provider is insisting that you can't have channel X in HD unless you also take channel Y in HD, not just SD.

That day may come if the advertisers start wanting to pay less for ads delivered to consumers in SD rather than HD even in the same commercial spot of the same program, same network, and same air time, but I haven't heard about it being an issue so far.

During the viacom dispute wasn't it stated here that forcing channel A with channel B is not quite legal? They can offer a discount for more than one. If you agree to channel B, we will lower our overall price. But forcing channel B to carry channel A can't be done. Or am I remembering wrong?

As for HD upgrade fees. I think those are all over the place. Some may make the deal for both SD and HD, some may charge for HD. I am assuming there are many of those because of the tango SR always talked about although that could be DirecTV agreeing to carry HD based upon extending agreements, digital rights, etc. BBCA had claimed that HD did not cost more yet it took quite some time for carriers like DirecTV and fios to get the HD even though they both had SD. There must have been other considerations or something was missing from the BBCA message.

Well... so far 2012 turned out to be a pretty decent year for HD additions. I got several of the channels I wanted in HD, BBC America and DIY HD being on the top of my list.

As a matter of fact, there really are only 2 left I would want.... Universal Sports in HD, and OWN for the wife. But quite frankly, I could live without any new HD for the rest of the year. I'm not trying to jinx things, but I am generally very happy with the current channel line up of HD channels.

There are no channels left - in my ever so humble opinion - that would be rightfully criticized with "OMG I can't believe DirecTV doesn't carry (channelname) in HD!!"

Now we're really not even talking about the frosting on the cake anymore, but maybe the 1 cherry in the middle.
[Disclaimer] The definition of "soon" is based solely on DirecTV's interpretation of the word, and all similarities with dictionary definitions of the word "soon" are purely coincidental and should not be interpreted as a time frame that will come to pass within a reasonable amount of time.

I am the Stig.

Fox Movie Channel, H2, HLN would be great additions. I know it's probably not that popular, but the Outdoor Channel would also be nice.

I can live without any new HD for the rest of the year, too, as long as we get Universal Sports before the Giro d'Italia starts on May 4, 2013. :D

Very good idea. I'd also add FSN Cincinnati full time, I had to get the sports pack for the Tour of Utah. But I still would like H2 as well.

There's not really much to say. If we want industry insiders (such as Satelliteracer) to take part in this forum, then they need to be treated with respect. It's a valuable resource and shouldn't be taken for granted.

There should be. You made a claim that Satelliteracer is being disrespected. I asked for your reasons for saying that. You completely avoided answering my question. I'll ask it another way. What did anyone do or say that disrespected Satelliteracer?

You weren't really that specific. You only asked if I cared to elaborate.

I want that we have: Full Time Fox Soccer Plus, H2, Cooking Channel and HLN, Bloomberg, Nasa, maybe Fuse.

I want that we don't have: OuterMax, Epix, Plex Channels, Longhorn, Pac 12 Networks, Time Warner Sports Network.

Wow. One poster mentioned that Satelliteracer's hints were non specific. Another one said that a Facebook rep for Directv told us about a new hd channel before Satelliteracer did. Both statements are true. Neither was mean spirited. You are probably more upset by these terrible transgressions than he is.
