C-SPAN

As long as they give us 2 and 3 in HD also, I'd hate just to get C-SPAN 1.

Nasa in HD would be great.

+2. A bit further down my list, but it may make my top 5 come poll time.

As for HD upgrade fees. I think those are all over the place. Some may make the deal for both SD and HD, some may charge for HD. I am assuming there are many of those because of the tango SR always talked about although that could be DirecTV agreeing to carry HD based upon extending agreements, digital rights, etc. BBCA had claimed that HD did not cost more yet it took quite some time for carriers like DirecTV and fios to get the HD even though they both had SD. There must have been other considerations or something was missing from the BBCA message.

Well, yes, mobile rights "TV Everywhere" are part of the issue, but that's not a content provider demand. . .that's a carrier demand.

To be clear, I believe (and cannot prove) that D* has "HD rights in their pocket" to more than one HD channel at terms they find acceptable, and have not launched those channels yet for reasons of relative priority, bandwidth budget, and infrastructure costs. Tho I also believe they probably have fewer of those than they did, say, 6 months ago. "Tangoing" (i.e. over things like mobile rights) is probably becoming relatively more of a constraint again on HD launch schedule as they launch those "pocket rights" channels and the inventory of them decreases.

C-SPAN

I would definitely be happy to have any of the C-SPAN in HD, but they probably won't make my Top 5 in a new poll.

I do think an opportunity might have been missed to carry them the next few months in temporary HD, like a major sporting event (which, frankly, I think is an apt comparison), then take them down again to use the bandwidth elsewhere, and you've got another few years to deal with permanent HD carriage.

But, whatever --I got abused pretty thoroughly way upstream for suggesting it the first time.

Since I started this...

My HR20-700 and HR23 both run 0x5d2 and my HR34 is the new 0x583. These are all the national releases. All three units added ION HD and DIY HD to my favorites by themselves.

Can I assume those folks to whose lists these weren't added had the SD versions in their favorites? I did.

Both SD versions of the channels were in my Custom 1 list on my My HR24-100 (5d2), HR21-100 (5d2) and my HR21-700 (5d2). After the introduction of the HD versions, the SD versions of the channels were automatically removed and the HD versions were NOT added. This has been the standard operating procedure on my DVR's for quite a long time. Since I don't follow this thread, about the only time I realize a new HD channel has been added is when I notice the SD version is missing from my custom guide or I just happen to look in my Custom guide and realize one of the channels I usually watch isn't there any longer. IIRC, it happened when AMC went HD as well.

I also hide SD duplicates on all recivers, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Thanks,
Rich

Seriously?

MrSmartyA, do a thread search for C-SPAN. Recently there was a huge, extended, knock-down, drag out fight over whether C-SPAN1 and C-SPAN2 were even worthy of being broadcast in HD.

I really hope we don't go there again. I'm not sure Brian Lamb could survive another beating.

But yes, there are a few of us who would really like C-SPAN1 and C-SPAN2 in HD.

Yes. It was added to the HD lineup of Hawaii Telecom, a cable provider in Bend Oregon, HBCI (cable operator in Minnesota) and I know there is 1 or 2 more. I looked it up by Googling, but suffice it to say that Universal Sports has an HD feed.

For now, only smaller, independent cable/telco operators seem to have picked it up.
[Disclaimer] The definition of "soon" is based solely on DirecTV's interpretation of the word, and all similarities with dictionary definitions of the word "soon" are purely coincidental and should not be interpreted as a time frame that will come to pass within a reasonable amount of time.

Indeed. I like my Winter Sports, and bobsledding, luge, ski jumping, and speed skating competitions are coming up..... and Universal Sports always shows a lot of those.

But hey, I find NFL Football a big sack of nothing, so to each their own. :)
