Great, another fee fight for a channel I won't watch.

The $3 RSN fee in select areas goes to $6 in selected select areas?

I don't get it. Yes, they are eying the fee for the channel without having to share it but they also fragment the audience and make the value of the channel go down. Plus they dilute the actual ratings. LA sports fan can now watch the Laker Girls instead of a Dodger game.

Everyone thinks the money train is infinite. It isn't.

I wouldn't be surprised.

Now, I suppose it's too much to ask that the Bloomberg article got it wrong, that the games will actually be on TWC Sportsnet. Honestly I see that channel going nowhere fast after basketball season and it wouldn't be such a bad idea for them.

Although, I will say that the Dodgers probably have a better chance of carrying a channel than the Lakers do. There are passionate Laker fans, sure, but baseball gets better ratings in general.

Nah I'm not surprise. Dodgers own the rights and fox likely wouldn't go for that.

Yeah you're right. Times are changing.

Two general thoughts:

1. The Dodgers' market footprint is smaller than the Lakers. San Diego would not be a viable market for this channel, while it is in Lakers territory. Not sure how far north the Dodgers' territory would extend. That has to impact TW to an extent.

2. The numbers might surprise you, but in recent years the Lakers have outrated the Dodgers in LA.

2a. Two separate channels for the Dodgers and Lakers is batsh#t crazy.

After watching the Lakers have their a$&@! handed to them in Chicago why do we even carry this channel at the expense of us subscribers? I know I don't have this channel but I'm paying for it one way or the other.

Not a done deal yet and from everything I've heard, FOX has the right to match. We'll see. Nevertheless, the cost is astronomical.

I know I don't have this channel but I'm paying for it one way or the other.

This is why DIRECTV instituted the double-extra-secret Regional Sports Fee. They know that subscribers aren't going to sit down for subsidizing sports any longer.

As a theoretical result, you're paying less for the big-market RSNs. You may not see a discount though as it will surely be balanced out by the reduction in the NFL Sunday Ticket rates where less than very small percentage of DIRECTV customers pay a fraction of the cost and everyone else pays the balance.

Nevertheless, the cost is astronomical.

The Latinos Post says the contract is for $7-8 billion over 20 years.

The story also indicates that Fox will spend $39 million this year for some Dodgers games and the whole season is said to be worth around $200 million.

Wow, that's what the NHL gets from NBC per year. Are the Dodgers really worth that much?

No

Of course my Lakers got a contract that is every bit as over the top as well IMHO.

And that is due to MLB revenue sharing
