Aside from everything else, why on earth would twc and the Lakers ever let any other provider see their contract? That would be dumb and destroy all leverage they had on anything, assuming there is such a clause, which I seriously doubt their is.
No one ever lets another see contracts. But I am assuming that the lawyers that DirecTV employs and the knowledge that DirecTV has in these kinds of contracts (including several Root sports networks they own themselves) allows them to come up with all the legal options that could exist between a sports team and the buyer of broadcast rights. They have brainiac lawyers, just like TWC and Lakers would.
DirecTV could just simply sit back and see if anyone bites.
That said, a "other carriers must carry" clause might also forgo the first season, which would give TWC all the time to wait it out themselves, and see if DirecTV is the first one to buckle under all the customers leaving.
In any case, looking back at Tribune, Viacom, now PAC12..... I have every reason to expect that DirecTV will be doing some HARD negotiating here, with missing a week or two weeks of the season a distinct possibility.
For the record:
First Pre-Season game: Oct. 7th.
First Season game: Oct. 30th (First three season games will be shown on national channels).
First Season game ONLY on TWC SN: November 4th.
I expect negotiations to go on till AT LEAST November 4th.
