Yeah, that's what I'm thinking put it on 119 and put it in a Spanish package. I would think the majority of the people who would really want to watch it instead of the English version will probably have a Spanish package already anyway.
Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn’t drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."

If you need a 5LNB to get it why not put it on 110 so it has someting to do?

See post My Setup for configuration info.

I believe DirecTV is done with 110. I think they were planning on scrapping it but have recently found someone else interested in leasing it from them if I remember correctly. I think there is info on it in the D14 thread.

Yeah I guess that would work fine! Unless the NBA has some restrictions as what type of package NBA should be on, and the Spanish package is considered "too premium" or something weird. I think you are right though, most Spanish speakers probably have a Spanish package.

D5 at 110w is presently undergoing testing to aid DIRECTV LA' overcrowded G3C bird by supplying additional programming, possibly HD, into Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.

Its backup at 110w, D1R, was thought to be headed for disposal, but now is in the process of transfer to another business.

I just think it is a complete waste of having to use multiple transponders to "spot beam" a Spanish RSN, and it seems that those with a little more information on how these spot beams work.... seem to agree with that.

Spot beams aren't a "unlimited resource" either, and if there is market demand for a Spanish language RSN with their own produced programming, and not to forget its own Spanish language advertising, well.... why not?

Spanish speaking Sports Pack subscribers nationwide might appreciate that. And there currently is enough CONUS bandwidth to carry both, so why not if market conditions are right.

I would think they would put the Spanish channel on 119 with the rest of the Spanish channels and make it available to people with Spanish programing packages. Then it's not taking up conus Hi Definition in the core satelites, or spot beams.

Edit: and then i read further and see I'm not here only one who thought that! ;)

That makes sense.

I also think that since Directv is available in Mexico like Tijuana, and Baja California that the new RSN channels will be offered there also.

Ah, as far as I know DIRECTV is not available anywhere in Mexico is it? When did that happen?

DIRECTV is not available in Mexico, though some are no doubt receiving it there unauthorized off the satellites' beam edges.

Mexico (including Central America) have their own DTH service. "SKY Mexico," of which DIRECTV is a minority owner using Intelsat 9 and 16 at 58w.

Here's what White had to say in the call yesterday, from http://seekingalpha....?page=8&p=qanda

We're all trying to ensure that we'll pay market that, but if the market doesn't continue to grow at rates that are unaffordable to the customer. But I think you'll continue to see those in the industry. You've seen quite an increase in the number of those disputes in the industry this year. But -- and as it relates to some of the sports networks that are being launched -- look, we have conversations with everyone out there. Sports is an important part of DIRECTV. But frankly, we have to be disciplined in that area, too, just like we are on the entertainment side. So I think we'll have to see. We've had some conversations. We've got a couple of those decisions to make. We probably can't afford to do everything that everybody would like us to do in sports, so we will be disciplined. And I think we'll just have to see.

Yeah I got that. But don't forget: It's a public forum, and they can easily use that as leverage. If they would have said "Sport is important to us, and we will do everything to bring good sports to our customers" or something like that, it will open the door for the other side to stick to their current number.

If DirecTV however says "we'll have to see what we can afford", the negotiations remain wide open.

I believe they won't carry everything. But they will carry PAC12 and the TWC Sportsnet because.... well.... they sort of have to, especially if they want to adhere to the other thing Mike White said: Focus on retaining customers not on getting new ones.

I didn't read that as not carrying Lakers or PAC 12. More like CSN Philly and other odd things. Maybe not carrying all seven PAC 12 nets fulltime but I think they intend on carrying it in some way.

I seriously doubt that has any real effect in negotiations. And well see if he's even here in a year... Hope so, but you never know... He wants to be the only top dog...

He's not going to leave the Lakers. When next summer they can offer him $30 million more than any other team. That's also not factoring all of the lucrative $$$ he will get in endorsements because he is now in LA & Hollywood.

Also the Lakers are the favorite and will probably win the championship this season.Yeah right he is going to leave for Dallas who will have cap space. But an aging Dirk Nowitzski.

As far as being "The Man" or "Top Dog". His time will come when Kobe & Nash, and Gasol all retire or move on in 3 years.

The Lakers then will clear a ton of cap space with those expiring contracts to build around him with young upcoming players like James Harden, Kevin Love, or even Kevin Durant.

Regardless, Personnel changes within the Lakers organization is not really going to affect the deal between DirecTV and TWC.

TWC has already paid the Lakers organization for carriage rights, so that part of the deal is done.

Definite motivation for Directv to carry TWC Sportnet! TWC must be rubbing hands together with $$$ signs in their eyes!

I agree with Marteen. No effect. If any, it would be negative. A better Laker team is more likely to be on espn and TNT more often, actually cheapening the TWC product.

But still, we are talking about a stories franchise in a huge market. The effect is basically zero.

Lakers are on the max number of times on espn and TNT and ABC every year as it is, so as you say, that isn't going to have any real effect either...
